Just a while ago, tuloy tuloy mga kulog dito sa amin, sobrang lakas na parang sumasabog na cannon. Nanginginig pa mga ilaw and chandeliers sa bahay. The past few days ganito lagi ang mga kulog. Is this because masyado nang polluted ang skies natin?
Dati naman hindi ganito mga kulog, kung mangyari man e sobrang bihira. Hindi kagaya ngayon na halos araw araw e ganito. Kakatakot.

June 18th, 2008 09:07 PM #4i'm more inclined to think that it's more because of global warming screwing up our weather. madalas na ngayon ung days sa sobrang init, followed by sobrang lakas na ulan, then init uli. i can't remember these things happening when i was a kid. kaya tuloy on/off tong sipon ko

Kung tuloy-tuloy yung mga kulog, it means na tuloy-tuloy din yung lightning that causes them.
I'm also inclined to think that their increased frequency is due to environmental imbalance. Or it could also be due to an increase in certain human activities, such as aircraft flying, since I hear these can artificially trigger lightning.

Without looking at computer forecast models (low - upper levels), it looks like a trough of low pressure circling around that cyclone to the southeast is moving from northeast to southwest. The thunderstorms mark the axis of that trough. It's confirmed because the winds over there are from a northerly orientation instead of the normal southwesterly direction of the southwest monsoon:

The satellite image is current. The thunderstorms are being sustained because at the low levels, the northeasterly flow of the trough is colliding with the southwest monsoon which had been pushed back west. There's nowhere for the warmer moister air to go but up. That provides added lift/punch for an already favorable tropical atmosphere resulting in more intense thunderstorms. That's the closest I can put it in layman's terms.
Add: It should be nice and cool relatively speaking at least for today over there if I go with my instincts. PAGASA don't think so. So, surface heating may cause more thunderstorms although I doubt they'll be as intense as the ones that came through.
There isn't much going on here once more. So, I'm looking at weather somewhere else.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; June 19th, 2008 at 06:06 AM.
