Guys, madalas na brownout dito sa amin. I'm now scouting for a 5 kva power generator.

Got a quotation already.

Need your feedbacks. Mahal din kasi so I hope I will make a good decision.

Q: how can you calculate how long the generator can supply power before it runs out of fuel? Some genset brands do mention how long their generators can supply power, but there's no mention whether it's full load, half load, etc.

our generator is a honda 6.5kVA unit ... when in use during blackouts, our load is around 1kW only and i observed it consumes around 2 liters of gasoline per hour ... it has around 20 liters tank capacity but we use it only from 6pm to 12mn

we don't use heavy loads such as aircons, flat iron, and water pump when genset is in use ... it seems 1kW (maybe even less) is just about the average load with 1 ref, 1 chest freezer, hot&cold water dispenser, lighting, 2 tv's, 2 efans, 1 desktop, 1 laptop, modem and router, cellphone chargers, and 1 small aquarium

i have not made real observation with aircon use, but i believe it could cost around 1/2 liter per hour (similar to the additional fuel on an idling car with aircon on) ... as a small 1 hp aircon is around 1kW, i think our genset will consume 1.5 liters/hr without load, and 0.5 liters/hr for every additional 1kW load

we're using denyo 12.5KVA sound proof diesel generator. we bought it (surplus/2nd had) from kilton before for 140K i think but i dont remember when. and just last week, i checked the price for 2nd hand 12.5 KVA, its 320K na.

as far as what we use is concerned, habang umaandar, pag mababa na ang fuel level, there will be a warning sound

so karga na dapat bago maubusan

    thanks for the replies.

maiba naman ako konti...advisable ba to make a small bahay bahay for the genset, with around 2 to 3 -foot elevation? What would a typical one be made of? i would assume the base would be made of wood or any similar material that can deal with vibration.

Any chance na mag overheat siya due to inadequate ventilation?

I'm assuming na mas mahal yung mga sound-proof at diesel na generator, but can you give me an idea kung mga magkano kaya yun?

As for my case, I fill it up, and let it run....

Longest I ran it without re-fill was about 12 hours..... (Hindi pa rin ubos ang fuel)....

^^^ It is rated at 3KVA, Honda genset, gasoline fuel.

Load is about 120W of lighting, a refrigerator, 2/5 electric fans for about 12/8 hours, 1HP of (water) pressure pump (kicked in about 5-6 times during the 12-hr period), TV for about 3 hours.... Bought this genset about a decade ago... Still works okay for my 'brownout' setup....

We used to have one during the Cory days (diesel fed good enough to run a few TV's and electric fans pero no air-con liit lang kasi) tapos around the end of the Ramos days where brownouts were rarer binenta na. Until now wala pa rin kami...

question, paano niyo plug yun wire ng gen set sa MTS niyo? ganito kasi s akin meron outlet ng pareho sa A/C kaso natatakot ako baka masunog pag matagal naka on. never ko pa na try ng more than 5 hrs straight na open yun gen set namin eh
