well, i get my gas from the neighborhood ptt, because of its competitive price, and because it is competitively situated... in the neighborhood.
no issues thru the many years.
ako naman, its Caltex (if nasa Landers ako)
then Unioil (S&R discount) or Petron
Once or twice a year, kapag may out of town trip, I use V-Power
S&R + Unioil for me.
From watching many local repair videos, Diesel injectors on vehicles used in rural and/or remote areas tends to have more issues. I have no science to back it up but it does support the idea we've known or have entertained for a while, that particularly in lesser-known gas stations, they may be using lower-tier, substandard, or even contaminated fuel stocks.
Just be careful where you gas up... The P8/L you save could cost your 25k down the road.

Watched similar vids. I think it was on Berrima Diesel's channel. They showed that tiny particulates contaminating diesel fuel is what kills high pressure pumps/injectors. Even took one apart to show the scoring on the inside. Since then I've only used Unioil for all our diesels. With the S&R discount they're also the cheapest by a good margin anyway.
fast forward to 9:20 (this is why I use V-Power 1-2 times a year)
Is Expensive Gas Really Worth It?
Donut
I used to think that the fuel filter would be able to catch anything bigger than what is tolerated by the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors and that fuel quality is overrated. But I guess if particulates pass through often enough, even if they're technically smaller than the smallest orifice in the fuel system, it will still cause damage like sand-blasting a surface, just because of the very high pressures involved (25,000 - 30,000 PSI).
my personal guess, all local fuels meet the minimum requirements mandated by our DOE.
Pero just sharing, I once met someone who worked for a transport company who handled the 5 biggest companies locally. He said, Shell will always require them to "clean their tanks" if the last customer was Petron. Said requirement was not there if they carried the other 3-top fuels locally. "May sediments daw Petron Fuel" - this is the same reason why he only uses Shell.
Tapos, someone from Petron naman told me na no-name companies just buy fuel from whoever sells them the cheapest. So fuel purchased from no-name A this week might be a different fuel 2-3 weeks later.
I use Amsoil Diesel Injector Clean. On my old 2KD Innova, I really felt it running better after finishing off the 16-oz. bottle in two tanks of fuel. On the current 1GD Innova, I felt nothing.
It may be that the 2KD was dirtier (older) at the time I poured in the additive, while the 1GD is just barely a year old.
My guess would be the "regular" stuff.... ie. Shell FuelSave, Petron XCS/DieselMax, etc.
Sulit na sulit sa akin yung S&R card discount ko at Unioil.
Hindi ako nagpapagas sa mga station na dilapidated na. Not foolproof, but it gives you a hint kung compromised na yung storage tanks nila. Baka napapasukan na ng contaminants
Same. Not the least of which is that they're the only one right now that is Euro-5 compliant.
I have been looking for more technical information on their fuels so I can plan on whether it needs an aftermarket additive or not. The Motor Oil Geek recommends using Diesel additives because in the US, their Diesel fuel formulation generally have insufficient additives to clean the injectors. PEA is the active ingredient that is effective at this job. Then again, the way I understand it, Aramco (Unioil's likely supplier) is the biggest fish in the sea of oil players. I don't suppose they're likely to supply low-tier fuel products...
Caltex ako eversince nagka auto ako.
Was convinced by a colleague after switching fuel source to Caltex.
Mas mabilis na daw hatak ng Mazda 3 2009 niya compare nung nagpa gas siya sa ibang fuel station.
ako naman, feeling ko. Stations like Gazz etc uses the minimum required additives, kaya cheaper fuel + less staff sa payroll means cheaper gas.
(just sharing, same guy told me that owners of no-name fuel stations can earn by as much as 8 pesos/liter, compared to 3-4 pesos/liter if you decide to sign-up sa big name stations)
Big 4 + Seaoil + Unioil + Total will have no choice but to sell better fuel to justify their higher cost.
On a regular day, I believe that the big brands benefit from more customers flocking to their stations. Brand trust is probably one of the main reasons why that is.
The only time small players got a taste of extremely good sales was when gas prices shot up into the high-P70/L in mid-2022. The major gas stations were a ghost town for weeks. I believe I was then getting my fuel from CleanFuel, Seaoil, Metro Oil, and Rephil.... whichever was closest.
