I've read this thread from the start and natuwa ako kse maraming 'lurker' ang nag post or ung mga bihirang mag post hehehehe.

I agree na mas maganda ang Manila noon kesa dati. Kakaiba tlaga!

I'll choose to live in that era. Simple lng ang buhay noon, as in SIMPLE. ;)

nice pictures nga pala, makes me wanna go back in time :worried:

the lists of good thing of yesteryears will not end if we will continue to compare this with what we got today.
Let's not wait for our kids to start a thread like this feeling sorry for what is left for them. Time to change sabi natin pero wag na natin itong hintayin pa sa mga lider at gubyerno natin. Let's start it small within our self, family, community. it is a drop of water that makes an ocean. Small things but might spell a big difference.

The picture of "La Loma, Quezon City 1973" is not actually of La Loma but of Sampaloc, Manila, specifically of Dimasalang pass Maria Clara going north towards Blumentritt and North Cemetery. The rise in the road in the background is the bridge over the PNR tracks. I remember this area well because this was where my jeepney ride passed through when I was in high school at UST from 1976-80 and took a jeep from Bluementritt.

Dimasalang still floods like a river during rainy season as it did then. I remember I had to walk home once when Sampaloc was flooded and no jeepneys were around by walking along the narrow median in Dimasalang as seen in the photo to avoid falling accidentally into the open manholes along the sides of the street. These things still happen whenever it floods in Sampaloc.

Some things never change but it was good to see what it looked like three decades ago.

medyo nakakahinayang din, before maluwag ang kalsada pero mababagal naman ang sasakyan, but now, mabibilis na ang sasakyan pero ang sisikip naman mga kalsada... sad to say, mabagal ang improvement eh. hayyy!

nice to look at old pictures. it makes us wonder what happened and what we have done in the past. kakalungkot isipin na the beauty of manila was lost because of our undiscplined acts. what will happen to manila in the next three decades?

More likely to be true. Compare mo lang ang era during the 80's or 90's to today. Noong highschool ako during the 90's when I was about 14yrs old.

Ngayon ang dami ko ng nakikita mga 12-14yr olds ng yoyosi, umiinon, gumigimik hangang wee hours of the morning. Also noong highschool ako konti lang ang kikay. Ngayon as early as 12 may nakikita ko mga babae ahit na ang kilay naka make up.

    SO ano sa palagay mo?

Moralidad ng tao pababa ng pababa :flush:

Unlike most of you, I am old enough to have lived through
that time. It was peaceful and quiet compared to now.
Do not believe the propaganda of Anti-Marcos people
that Martial Law Years were Dark Years. Yes, dark years
for them because they were communists who were relegated
to hiding in the hills. But for the ordinary citizen, life was
peaceful and relatively crime free. There was discipline.
Criminals and petty thieves were not brought to court where
they can post bail and commit another crime afterwards. No!
Criminals at that time were "salvaged" by the Metrocom.
Crime solution was fast and simple.

Looking back through those pictures, you now ask of what
use is our ****in' democracy if we all ever tasted was chaos
eversince it was restored. Damn, we were much better off
    under a dictatorship...

100% agree with you! mas maganda pa ang buhay dati under marcos rule lahat ng tao may disiplina at may kinatatakutan..kaya ganyan kaganda ang pilipinas nuon.

my friend's mom was made to pull out the grass at the center island of one of the streets in manila as punishment for jaywalking and i agree with that. ngayon nagkalat na lahat ng mga katarantaduhan ng tao, tawid dito tawid duon at kalat dito kalat duon.

How do you explain Ferdinand and Imelda siphoning off the national coffers for their own interests, not to mention the cronies who milked the very companies that they were handling?

Discipline earned, not through respect but through tyranny and fear, is easily lost.

That's because Mr. Martial Law himself set the example for future generations of politicians to simply copy. That's not entirely his fault, however. Maganda naman yung naging first term niya as president. Maybe it's safer to say that Marcos--and the Filipino people--were better off without Imelda.

80's baby na kasi ko e. i think nga were better nong dictatorship ang government natin. kasi sa mentality ng pinoy na wala talaga minsan desiplina sa sarili. mas ok na talaga yung my mag hold saatin like an iron fist ni marcos! i think yung to much freedom na nabigay saatin ng democracy yun ang unti unti nagpasira saatin. i just think we pinoy are still not ready s privilage na nabibigat satin ng democrasya! we just dont know how to use it well kaya tayo naging ganito now! konting desiplina lng ang kailangan. sa lansangan nalang natin nasan ang desiplina natin don????

i just wonder what happened to Philcomsen Building in Ortigas. Does anybody here knows how Pasong Tamo looks before or its old name? On my way to office, I can see some art deco buildings in Pasong Tamo. May weird designed building beside Mantrade eh
