Should the goalkeeper, who is a minor, sue the parent who was protecting/rescuing his son?

Fight cuts short Alcoy vs. Ateneo match in Aboitiz Cup
By Edri K. Aznar and Mike T. Limpag
    Sunday, March 16, 2014

TRASH TALK in a football match led to a free-for-all yesterday in the 18-Under division of the Aboitiz Football Cup.

The incident resulted in the abandoning of the match between Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Alcoy, with Ateneo leading, 3-1.

“It started with the trash-talking then it escalated,” said one parent who saw the incident and asked for anonymity.

The parent said one player from Alcoy threw a punch, while another supporter got into the field, triggering the free-for-all. While this was happening, there was also another incident involving the goalkeeper and an Ateneo player, who got rescued by his father.

Another outsider stepped in to help calm the tension but the goalkeeper already got struck in the head, opening a gash.

One Alcoy player got ganged up on because he ran to the Ateneo bench, while another ran all the way to the other field, where another game was being played.

The source added that on the way out, the parents themselves got in the act.

    Aboitiz Football Cup fight, brawl
“The parents from Sacred Heart who weren’t there received calls, and the parents from Oslob also called up people they know, like former board members or former councilors for help,” he said. “The police were there, the head of security of Aboitiz was there because one of the Aboitizes was watching the CIS game.”

He also said Atty. Julius Entise, a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Cebu Football Association also arrived and talked to the match officials.

“Gubot kaayo tungod lang sa trash talk,” he said.

Just got this off FB, so it should be taken with a grain of salt...

    https://www.facebook.com/cebusunstar...type=1&theater

Sources said the parent has a key or pocket knife in his hand and struck the Alcoy player's head which lead to bleeding. Child abuse charges coming right up! And oh! This is an U-18 game. If the player is 16 or 17 then he is dead meat.

Can anyone verify if the guy in the pic had something in the palm of his hand? That black spot right below his pinky finger seems to suggest he was holding on to something, in a stabbing fashion.

imho dapat lang na kasuhan yung parent. If they are considered young adults, then they should fight their own battles, and get beat up by fellow teenagers. If you consider fights as a right of passage, a matter of "honor", then let your kids fight amongst themselves, wag naman yung buong angkan kadamay. And no weapons involved -- away away lang, wala namang patayan sana.

What might have been a fight between two teenagers became a brawl when the parents got involved. If not for child abuse, then he should get sued for

    - assault with a deadly weapon(assuming he had one)
    - inciting a brawl

And, what's more, aren't parents supposed to set a good example?

There's just something about sports events that get people riled up.

part ng sport ung magka initan at mauwi sa umbagan.

pwede umawat ang parent, pwede din akapin ang anak nya para sha ang tumangap ng suntok, pero kung ung parent ang uumbag, mali na yan.

From these photos, it appears the parent seem to be using his car keys... Pati yung umaawat binugbog rin...

Pictures from the Sun Star Cebu have circulated and many netizens are outraged by this display of violence from adults, towards kids, because of a sporting event.

You can see an adult here seemingly hitting the kids with a closed fist, and with what seems to be a key in his fists.

Reports state that there will be child abuse charges filed. The images of that adult punching the goalkeeper supposedly resulted in that teenager having a bloodied head, as seen on the last photo below.

Kaso yan. Kung bata vs bata, magulang vs magulang, ok yan. Rescue mo yung anak mo kung olats na sa one on one. pero talo ka pag inupakan mo ang minor ang kaaway ng anak mo.

Yes, I have to. In the picture, the 2 kids were fighting one on one, it wasn't as if the other kid was being ganged up on. Just step in and break up the fight. It's part of life's lessons. Then if your kid was on the losing end. Enroll him in self defense class. Helping your own kid fight another kid his age sends a wrong message.

I do not think the father was holding the car keys. If you notice in one picture, you can clearly see the car key hanging from his pants. So what was the father holding in his hand? A folded fan knife used to add weight to his clenched fist?
