Ang alam ko, they lay their dead to rest in the Ganges river. Not sure if it's a Hindu practice. So medyo culture shock talaga when you realize so many people bathe there every day. Baka walang choice.
Sabi nga ni Jeremy Wade, kaya daw me river monster sa Ganges....i guess from their POV, they consider it as returning your body to nature, para maka sustain naman ng ibang life. Pero ako cremate na langLast edited by badkuk; October 9th, 2013 at 02:43 PM.

they normally cremate their dead until only ashes remain. however since most people are poor and can not afford to buy enough wood, or more often than not don't have any money to spare at all, half-cremated bodies and even those freshly dead are simply let to float in the river. dapat sana ashes lang ang ilalagay sa ganges e pero kulang sa pang-gatong.
an old friend told me before never to go to india as when he was assigned there he said people defecate in the streets and the food, no matter how well cooked it may be, is unsanitary. i was a bit skeptical since i see indians on the rig seeming to be very concerned with their hygiene (except for some who really do not take baths). years later my 2 assistants before went for training in mumbai. the first one to go wanted to look around the first night. he however did not get very far from the hotel front door as he saw people defecating on the streets and sidewalks. nagkalat daw ang ebak ng tao. so he turned around. he later got sick after eating his dinner, and had to eat only apples and bananas for the week he was there. the 2nd one to go confirmed what he reported. he was lucky since he was forewarned and had plenty of instant noodles with him. my sister also went there (emergency medical case, she escorted the patient), and she went there twice. when the plane was at 10000 feet elevation she said she can already smell the overwhelming stench (so pakistan is better, since when i passed by there the stench becomes pervasive only at 5000 feet). same report, people defecating in the streets, dead animals everywhere. and this was in the middle of a big city. so when the company asked me to go there for training i simply refused. and when they transferred me there i resigned.Last edited by yebo; October 9th, 2013 at 04:33 PM.

I remember when my ex-wife was sent to a city in India for some management training to be done there (India office of the company she worked for). She only left the hotel ONCE and ate all her meals in the hotel and only drank bottled water. She said it was like hell for the few days she was there and would prefer NEVER to go back there again.

nung nasa US ako, me staffhouse na bukod ung mga
anaps. tapos me driver kami na mexican na naghahatid
sundo from staffhouse to office. reklamo sya para daw dumpsite
staffhouse nung mga anaps pag pinupuntahan nung
tagalinis.
sa singapore, reklamo naman ng mga lokal na nagpaparenta ng condo/HDB, ayaw nila ng anaps at messy daw na tenant.
pero ibaiba din naman yung mga ugali nila depende kung
sang region sila galing.
pero me mga babaeng anaps na ubod ng ***y na kahit
me amoy eh ok lng na makatabi ko sa train or bus. ;)

i remember an episode of monster fish dati. iirc, they theorized
that some kind of fish in the ganges might have grown
so big because of the corpses of dead people being washed or thrown
there becoming food for creatures living in it.
