maybe when it comes to opinions about the "government", pero all other things, no. in fact i'm amazed at how some people can still put up a smile despite all the crap happening in their lives.

generally, i think filipinos are optimists..... but i agree with ILD, the filipinos now are going to the opposite. madami ng nawawalan ng pag-asa, madami ng umaalis ng bansa.... tsk-tsk-tsk.

i'd like to think of myself as a pessimist, but i have suspicions that i am a closet optimist B)

actually, when you think about it, you really don't have a choice *but* to be optimistic. if people were pessimistic, nothing would happen since you'd be mentally, psychologically, emotionally defeated before the first punch had been thrown.

pessimists are more like those bystanders that cheer *or* jeer while watching other people play the game. on any given day players may lose or they may win. those who stay at the sidelines all their lives will always be losers, coz they never really tried.

sabi nga sa Heart and Souls:

"No offense, Harrison, but you died a failure because you never tried."

if people were truly, truly pessimists, then there would'nt be much sense going on with one's life -- you'd feel that you're better off putting a bullet in your head to "get it over with". :p

Considering we are so poor yet we have been rated as the Happiest nation in Asia proves we are pretty optimistic.

Better than being in total despair.

    Pessimistic?

I think Filipinos are more of fatalists, kasi uso yung expression natin na "bahala na"....ang Diyos, si Batman, etc. We are reactive to what's happening around us in the present, taking things as they come, instead of being more proactive in order to anticipate/plan for the things that are yet to occur.
