Do we really like brands? Is it an Asian and American thing?

My new European VP told me several times that us Filipinos must earn a lot and even more than them in Europe. I accompanied him to shop for his wife and he found out that designer brands are more expensive here in the PH and yet he sees it EVERYWHERE. I was really pissed because I wanted my boss to know that money is really hard for us Filipinos so he would feel sorry for me and give me a raise How can I do that now when he thinks Filipinos have so much money eg in my office we have staff who earn about P25k net carrying midrange designer bags of the same amount.

    everyone wants to look successful

    or look like they've "arrived"

one way to show you've arrived is buy displaying status symbols

But doesn't it have to be consistent? Like a whole lifestyle. You can't just buy brands and expect people to think that you are rich hehehe

for other people all they need is to project the image

kahit zero balance ang bank account, kahit lumalaki ang utang sa credit card

kahit walang parking para sa kotse

hindi naman nakikita saan nakatira, ano laman ng bangko

Baka nga 50% ng nakita ng VP naman fake. He just assumed all of it are real. So now he thinks pinoys earn a lot. How can I convince him otherwise

Tell him the truth. Most of it is fake.

Tell him Pinoys are a lot like Americans... go deep into debt to keep up the appearance of wealth.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    Brand conscious?

    Mga Feel-Ams!!!

Those already settled in the US, dami kasi outlets dun. My cousin looks like Eat Bulaga’s Jose Manalo’s character Frankie Arinoli, puno ng brand/logo ang outfit

Search brand names in local online shops (e. g. Olx, Shopee, FB) then sort by price.

Yun nga, sabihin mo fake lahat yun. That's the truth naman. Tell him to go to GH one weekend to validate. He can buy his wife an Hermes for 3k. [emoji23]

Brand conscious is not only in relation to social status aspirations but in a sense that they equate brands to value for money and quality. For example, sa kotse dapat Toyota para reliable and high resale value.

Also, did you just go to the high end malls that represent the upper middle and elite classes?

Good point. Greenbelt and BHS aren't representative of the entire Philippines (very, very far from it actually). Most expats stay within the confines of BGC and Makati so they think the average Filipino is more prosperous than they really are.

    Dalawa lang naman yan

Mayaman talaga or SC na kahit mabaon sa utang sige lang branded pa din.

Will you consider mga gumagamit ng fakes na brand conscious? Who are they fooling?

And I think hindi naman ganun kababaw yung boss ni Cathy, like what Vinj said baka nga sa highend malls / area siya lagi napapasyal? Aba eh puros ganun demographics nga makikita niya dun. Mayayaman at SCs [emoji23]

Ipasyal mo sa LCM tapos segway mo na sa Divi / binondo area welcome to Manila kamo.

^High Street and Greenbelt nga lang. How'd you know? But BGC and Makati are CBDs so there are a lot of employees that represent people from all walks of life pa rin eg blue collar, tellers, call center agents, managers, VPs etc

Brought him to Intramuros pero puro foreigners din nakasabay namin.

I wanted him to try Jollibee ayaw naman. Hahaha. Maarte din. BTW we went to Lego store in BGC tapos hobbes and landes in BGC and Greenbelt, sobra mahal daw ng lego sa Manila, 50% more expensive pero ang dami daw bumibili dito. Inulit na naman niya na we Filipinos are rich

Makes me wonder bakit nga ba poor country tayo and yet everything is so expensive. I was surprised that US products are cheaper in Europe than PH.
