Yes Philippines is poor compared to G8 Countries but compared to Bangladesh, Pakistan and even Vietnam, I dont think so. Go to India, they say has good economy right now. But when you go out of Airport, everybody is sleeping on side streets.

Sometimes poor becomes poorer because of our own habits. Pag sweldo takbuhan sa beerhouse, ubusan ng pera. Iyung iba pang mumog sa umaga Gin. Maghapon sa sugalan, inuman, ginagawang libangan ang panganganak.

Singapore has strong economy, but it is purely artificial. Walang agricultural, walang mining and walang source of natural potable water. Time will come their economy will reach the saturation point.

Goto Middle east, the oil rich countries. Pero walang agricultural and natural resources. Sooner their oils will be depleted.

Yes, economically we are poor. But in natural resources, heritage, cultures and history we are very rich. Di ko pagpapalit.

my mom commented that the Phils is quite rich in natural resources...e.g. ung lupa natin, kahit anong itanim mo, tutubo....ung lupa sa china, hinahaluan pa ng ebs ng tao -- and i think human ashes -- para tumaba ung lupa...sad to say we really don't know how to manage/take advantage of it

to me, it's not important whether or not we are poor, but *why* we are poor -- and what we're going to do about it

I think the biggest factor why we are poor is due to habits. Since we interact with some poor people what we do is either tell them why they are poor and give them opportunities or jobs. The jobs my not directly come from us, we try to look for one for them. So if we help few poor people to earn hopefully after a while they are be removed from the 70% poor. But its up to them to put themselves out.

Although sadly most people we have helped is still poor since their habits do not change. Konting tikim lang ng yaman they seem to spend it not in the right places. Although may newsboy kami na may bahay, some trycycles, savings, etc. Its good to see people who are really masipag rewarded for their efforts.

    Nice observations guys.

    gretzy,

Maybe because 80% of the Filipinos are just plain stupid. If every one of us will just think logically, maybe we will be far more prosperous than the U. S.

    Define poor... define broke...

If you owe more than you make, you're broke. If you make 50K a month, but owe credit cards 50K you're broke.
If your country makes 100M (hypothetical) per annum but spends 120M per annum your country is broke.

So it doesn't matter whether the whole country drives around in a Bentley, unless those "show-off items" are fully paid for, it's not yours. Until your car payments are fully paid for, it's not yours. Until your house and lot/condo is fully paid for, it's not yours. You're just renting to own.

The poor... ahh... how ironic... The money making segment of the country (ABC) works hard for their money, pays a big sum for their taxes... Where will it end up? Back to them as public service? Heck no...

Goes to the ever-whining, ever-complaining urban poor who leeches off the money earning crowd to feed their own "needs".

Bullcrap that 70% of Filipinos can't even buy food while they have the money to buy drugs, cigarettes, gin and juice... 1.50/cig may not sound much, 5 sticks a day will yield 7/day. x 30 days = 350/month on cigarettes... If you used that money to buy NFA rice at P15/kilo, that's 23kg of rice in a month.

May pera pang pambili ng pre-paid!

Isa pa... Look around... Jeeps drivers, Tricycles drivers, Vendors, etc don't pay taxes... but they use the road, exhaust our patience and resources, empty our gas tanks with traffic, etc. Who's paying for them? The working class.

THERE WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE COUNTRY IF 70% OF IT WILL JUST BE LEECHED OFF BY THE NON-CONTRIBUTING SEGMENT.

    boydapa,

it's because Filipinos rely too much on prayer and forget that they also have to work for food. ano bang akala ng pinoy, magdadasal lang siya e mahuhulog na yung pagkain galing sa langit hehehe
