THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources yesterday warned emission testing centers in Metro Manila their licenses will be revoked if they are found to have falsified test results and allowed vehicles to be registered even if these were not tested.
Environment Secretary Michael Defensor said several emission testing centers facing closure do not have certificate mobile test equipment, which is required under Republic Act 8749 or the Philippine Clean Act of 1999.

The law provides that a motor vehicle needs to pass an emission test before it could be registered with the Land Transportation Office.

The DENR, however, found out that many emission testing centers were not complying with the law.

Defensor urged the Departments of Transportation and Communications and Trade and Industry to revoke the accreditation and close for good emission testing centers found to be engaged in tampering with the results.

The DENR accused some unscrupulous officials from the DoTC of conniving with operators of emission testing centers to violate provisions of RA 8749.

Among the emission testing centers found to have violated the testing requirements include Clean Nature Emission Center in Quezon City; Tip Top Emission Testing Center in Cainta, Rizal; Airpool Emission Testing Center in Makati City; AM Pacleb Enterprises in Marikina City; and Green Star Emission Testing Center in Manila.
