    Summary


    GDACS impact assessment

    On 2/6/2012 3:49:16 AM UTC an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 and depth 46.6km has struck an very highly populated area in the Central Visayas Province (population: 4.5 million) in Philippines. GDACS estimates the likelihood for need of international humanitarian intervention to be high (Red alert).

    It is likely that a tsunami was generated. The maximum tsunami wave height near the coast of Apoloy will be 0.05m. Please refer to the GDACS tsunami report for more details.

    This earthquake can have a high humanitarian impact since the affected region is very highly populated and has medium resilience for natural disasters.


    The nearest populated places are Ayungon (16km), Tayasan (9km), Moalboal (17km), Jimalalud (6km), Ronda (19km), La Libertad (7km), Apanangon (16km), Guihulngan (18km). It is a mountainous region with a maximum altitude of 2227 m
