Lawmaker wants Facebook, Twitter use regulated


MANILA, Philippines - A Marikina lawmaker is seeking to regulate government employees' use of social networking sites Twitter and Facebook during office hours.

Marikina City 2nd District Rep. Romero Federico Quimbo filed Wednesday House Bill 184, which seeks to impose regulations on the use of government Internet facilities to access social networking sites.

While Quimbo does not want a total ban, he proposes that government agencies regulate the use of social networking sites because it affects the productivity of the agencies.

The measure also proposes that government-owned and -controlled corporations be included in the regulation.

The bill also requires government agencies to submit "copies of their respective regulations" to the chamber during the deliberation of the proposed national budget for 2011.

Quimbo said that based on his own estimate, the government loses P10,315,8000 a month in electricity expenses if government employees use Facebook and Twitter 2 hours daily. –

I just don't see the point why I needed one. yun reason na to connect to your long lost friends etc, eh if I didn't talk to a person for 10-20 years I don't think I need to talk to them now. yun mga friends ko naman they are just text away, in fact I don't even text them I call them.

I hate social networking sites especially facebook MOSTLY mga madrama or mayabang ang mahilig magpost. Ang hirap kasi hindi naman anonymous sa facebook unlike forums. It's a stalker's paradise talaga.

this is the biggest reason why i hate facebook, grabe dami nag papansin, lalo na yung mga madrama na pa english english pa mali mali naman spelling at grammar nila. pati mga pictures nakakatuwa todo todo pa cute ng mga panget, kala mo ka gaganda at ka pogi.

i guess it's not for everybody, but its not just for friends. my family was able to reconnect with relatives in other countries that we haven't talked to in 10 years or so. we have a very big family so it's hard to keep in touch.

maybe it's who you know eh? ;) sa lahat ng nasa friends list ko, wala pa ata madrama at mayabang na post ako nakita. maybe i missed reading some but even if that's the case that only means very minimum yung ganung post (in my case at least)

Marami rin ngang revelations sa facebook. Acquaintances that I used to be okay with inis na ko ngayon kasi sa facebook lumalabas tunay na kulay (ksp, maarte or mayabang pala). Pati mga biniling sapatos and bags ipo post. Who cares??!! My ex discovered the same din yung classmate niya nung college na ang impression niya mabait, mayabang pala kasi sa facebook ina announce daw lahat ng donations sa mga charity. LOL.

I only created a facebook account just to register my name so that no one could pose as me (upon my friend's advise). Ayoko talaga mag add ng tao pero may mga tao na sasabihin bakit hindi ko daw sila cino confirm kaya nagkaron tuloy ako ng "friends". I'll just keep my account inactive kasi iinit lang ulo ko sa facebook.

Unlike in forums, the exact same name can be used multiple times in facebook. So there's no point registering in facebook just for the sake of protecting your own identity.

I opened an account mainly to reconnect with my high school buddies, most of whom I haven't seen in over 20 years. It was really nice to see them again in person, kaya this year, naka-ilang reunion na kami, hehehe. It's really great reminiscing the past. HS days were the best part of growing up.

Also, nakita ko na ulit yung mga pinsan ko na ang tagal ko na ding hindi nakita. (Last time I saw them siguro, over 10 years ago, nung madalas pa kaming umuwi sa province). Truth is, when I opened an FB account, I discovered may mga kapatid pala yung mga pinsan ko (which makes them my cousins also), hehehe.

Honestly, I used to shun social networking sites. Ang feeling ko talaga, those are only for queers or pretenders. But it's really nice to have one, if you need to check out on somebody, whether friend or foe. (Yung mga nagpatalbog ng cheke then nagtago, may FB account din eh. Which is why we were able to serve outstanding arrest warrants or subpoenas, kasi nalaman namin kung saan sila ngayon naka-base).
