Cebu fire eats up P60M worth of seized vehicles

CEBU CITY -- At least 60 million pesos worth of seized vehicles went up in smoke early Thursday morning when fire gutted a building of the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) at the Cebu International Port here that was also used as a storage facility of the Bureau of Customs.

The one-story building also housed the offices of the Maritime Police Office in Central Visayas, Starlight Cargo Express and Oriental Port and Allied Services Corp. (Opascor), said Cebu Fire Marshall Esmael Codilla.

He said the fire broke out around 3:55 a.m. at the Starlight Cargo, located beside the area where the Customs stored its seized items. It was put under control after 55 minutes.


Cebu Customs Collector Lourdes Mangaoang said the blaze destroyed several confiscated vehicles, including luxury cars and utility vans.

hay naku ang pinoy nga naman kapag sa kalokohan at sa pag-gawa nang pagkakakitaan eh ginagawa ang lahat ng paraan. see,first point i dont think such a storage building has no fire alarm system, or any fix fire protection system such as fire extinguishers,hose reel,break glass alarm. smoke detector,sprinkler system etc...this fire alarm system is usually connected to nearest fire department,in case any fire alarm system activate-they will see in their panel board,enough to respond the fire dept.incase this was not connected to fire dept.i dont think so that there is no one there to know that there is fire is going on, a branch of gov't specially illegal and seized items or unit is heavily guarded. a smell really fishy here!!! sino na naman kaya ang kumita dito???
