just wondering out loud: wouldn't the sealed plastic wrapping prevent the dessicant from doing its job?

It's not really sealed, it's slightly porous.

pero yung packaging ng desiccant mismo ay dapat must be porous to allow activation to occur.

desiccant is a correct term, it means "A chemical species which picks up water molecules".

The plastics used to store desiccants are porous enough to absorb water molecules.
