MANILA, Philippines – A passenger bus fell off the Skyway Tuesday morning, police said.

Inspector Jenny Tecson, Southern Police District spokeswoman, said their men rushed to the area after receiving information about the accident.

No other details are available as of posting time.
Aren't the railings supposed to be sturdy enough? Dapat di yan bibigay kahit high impact.

Kitang kita sa video... they were overtaking, so they were definitely going quickly. The problem is, there's no time counter on the Skyway videocameras, so there's no way to extrapolate the speed.

I'd say they were likely going around 100+. Even if they were going "just" 100, that's way too fast for the conditions, even if it's not legally "speeding".

Note the rear tires? In the videos, they don't seem to have much rear tread. That should figure into the investigation, because if the tread of the rear tires is too low, then a heavy crosswind will easily push the bus off-line once it hits a puddle.

But I disagree that the Skyway accepts no culpability there. Those of us who've driven that portion know what a piece of crap it is. Lumpy surfacing, wavy surface... soft vehicles tend to "boat" over it like crazy. It's definitely dangerous.

Add to that the fact that the railing is incorrectly designed, and then bordered by movable barriers that can punch a vehicle's nose up and over the railing...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

It seems there nothing wrong with the railing, the fact that the concrete part is still intact. Philippine bridge design is based from AASHTO (US) including the railings. If you want the railing to withstand impact, imagine the size of concrete impact BARRIERS you find before entering a toll gate, you have to put the same on the side of the bridge (skyway or viaduct). It will substantially increase the cost of construction. Kahit sa movies, common ang vehicles falling from a bridge. It could only be the fault of either the driver or vehicle's integrity.
