MANILA, Philippines - After policemen, traffic enforcers, cooks and waiters, here come the dancing cabin crew of local budget airline Cebu Pacific.

Carrying seat belts, life jackets and oxygen masks, young female flight attendants danced to Lady Gaga's Just Dance and Katy Perry's California Girls while demonstrating safety procedures, as recorded on video by one of the passengers.

Actual flight safety guidelines were read while the music was being played in the aircraft.

The YouTube video, which was uploaded only on Thursday, has generated more than a hundred comments.

Netizens particularly commended the Gokongwei-led airline for having "pretty flight attendants" and "nice (dance) moves."

"Brilliant! A refreshing change to the same old uptight drill. Way to go, Cebu Pacific, love it," one of them said.

Another added, "Hahaha having fun while working, that's cool. Now you'll know when in an emergency, you'll hear that music and dance. All you need to know now is the dance step."

    Instructions not clear?

The video, however, did not sit well with some Internet users, who called the dance routine "cheap," "ridiculous" and "unnecessary."

Others scored Cebu Pacific for "taking safety lightly" by not providing clear safety instructions and allowing electronic gadgets such as video cameras to be used inside the aircraft.

"The FAs (flight attendants) are pretty and they dance very well but I think safety demonstrations should be shown as it is especially for first-time passengers. Safety demonstrations are not for the passengers' entertainment but for their protection," one user said.

"You think when this flight undergoes an emergency, will the paxs (people) remember the song and dance or the safety features of this aircraft and how to use the emergency equipment?" another quipped.

    Just for fun

Reacting to the feedback they saw on YouTube, Cebu Pacific vice president for marketing Candice Iyog made it clear that the cabin crew's dance routine was meant to "make people interested, showcase homegrown talent and raise morale."

She stressed, however that passenger safety remains their primary concern.

"This does not replace the serious safety demo as required by CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines). It was done at cruising altitude during one of our test flights," Iyog told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

She continued, "They (cabin crew) also enjoyed it, not just the passengers. We just want to add a little more fun. We're always thinking of new things."

Iyog revealed that Cebu Pacific tapped the help of professionals to come up with the dance routine and has trained at least "2 sets of cabin crew" for the company's new gimmick.

She said they are planning to roll this out to long flights to keep guests entertained.

"Maybe for flights that last longer than an hour, both for domestic and international flights," Iyog said, adding, "We're going to do this along with the serious safety demo."

Asked how this dance routine may affect Cebu Pacific's ticket sales, Iyog said, "I don't think that's our intent. It's more about awareness of our brand and our culture, that we Filipinos know how to have fun, too."

Cebu Pacific carried more passengers than its closest rival, flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL), during the first half of the year.

The Gokongwei-led carrier claims to be the country's leading airline as it dominated air travel from January to June, with a market share of 48.7%
