January 11th, 2020 01:33 PM #9671Naiiwan ng panahon ang pag-iisip?
From a car enthusiast, I don’t think thats a fair statement.
I know couple of guys in 50s-60s collecting Ford Escorts. So can I go up to them and tell them to grow-up? I dont think so.
Theres really a difference from a car enthusiast to a casual car guy.

People who scoff at "expensive" EK Civics are usually people who don't understand the tuning potential of these cars.
If you check the fastest times in Clark or BRC, save for the supercars, most of them are well-modified EKs and EGs. Faster than an FK8/STi or tuned FD.
There are many other cars with high tuning potential but the availability, price and reliability of EK parts is a significant reason why they are still the preferred track car to this day.

I like old fast cars but there’s a line between appreciation and lunacy. I didn’t say anything wrong about buying a classic. There are reasonable amounts to spend on a classic but for a dressed-up EK, that’s too much. That’s being mature.
I would understand if it was a loaded E36 M3 or maybe an Evo8 or Skyline R33/R34. A Sylvia with a tuned engine and track-capable suspension is a better proposition.

Why buy an old EK for 2.4M when you can buy a new Type R for 3M?
However, if a chance is presented upon me on a reasonably-priced stock Civic EK SiR, I’d take it. Maybe 300k but if it’s beyond that, I can get an old WRX STi for less than 1M.
