Basically to discourage buying cars not manufactured in the Philippines (like vios, innova and mirage/G4), imported cars get P70,000 safeguard duties and LCV get P110K safeguard duties on top of the regular price.

It makes cars produced here more price competitive kasi the average manufacturing cost difference per unit between Thailand and the Philippines, is about P70K in their studies.
the safeguard duty is basically, an import tax.

and here's something else: the safeguard measures act (RA 8800) is not exclusive to cars alone. everything imported can potentially be covered by that tax. the concerned party has but to petition for its protection.

Different name, same effect nga. Yup, the law gives a means to an industry to ask the state for "safeguard" or protection from imports.

How come its only the lower end cars/SUV models that are slapped with the dti safeguard tax?
yung mga top of the line models walang safeguard tax pero yugn lower end models mayrun.
Pati luxury cars hindi din affected by the safeguard tax.

indonesia is doing it the other way around.

while imported vehicles are not levied additional tax,
locally manufactured cars get some of their local taxes suspended, hence making their local cars cheaper. to encourage costumer buy.

If it's on my property I'll probably get airgun and start target shooting.

arroceros probably won't like it, either.

like snow, only kids like squirrels.

Epidemic of catalytic converter theft is sweeping the uk.

"A METAL found in car exhausts is now worth 20 times that of gold — sparking a surge of thefts across the UK.

Rhodium, which is used in catalytic converters, has shot up in value from £750 an ounce in 2014 to about £20,000 today.

Palladium, another metal found in the devices, is £1,688 an ounce — making them both pricier than gold, which sells for £1,230 an ounce.

And thieves can earn themselves £450 for every converter they steal — with gangs now raking in millions each year."
