Can/Should THESIS be an overnight project?

there's a reason why they make it a semester-long 'class' :D

i'm not one to talk - we did next to nothing all semester and finally decided to do the full thing from start to finish in seven days. luckily, i had all the data validated, and arranged in a useful format (the thesis was an econometric model) - otherwise, there was absolutely no way we would have even finished a draft.

anyway, by the time you start your thesis, you're in the middle of the dreaded disease 'senioritis' :D you more or less know what your GPA is, you most probably already have a job waiting, and you just want to get that crap over with

er, it depends on what your thesis is all about.

if you need to conduct some research, data sampling / survey, statistical analysis - to establish your OWN observation (that is why it is called thesis in the first place) - you can't just do it overnight.

but if you are just going to base all your work on already published books and materials. then you can.

it took me one school year to finish my thesis, (70+ pages).

ok nga yung timetable ng mentor ko. di mo mahahalata na madami ka nang nagawa. tapos pagdating ng defense, cruise control ka na.

for me its not advisable kasi kahit paano meron pa ding mga revision na dapat gawin. well you can do it overnight but make sure to read and edit it after at least 2 days para clear yung mind mo pag binasa mo ulit.

You know what happens to overnight theses at our school? My coworkers take one look at them and ask the students what schedule they would like for next year's thesis class.

1 term for the proposal and RRL na, that includes research and data gathering para sa proposal and review of related lit, around 87 pages hehehe

tapos 2nd term (this term yun) tsaka palang kami mag susurvey, tapos defense sa end of term

kaya depende nga siguro sa thesis, if your thesis needs data gathering techniques pa d talaga kakayanin. ang pagsusulat kaya siguro ng overnight or a few days pero ang isusulat mo mismong data ang matagal kunin eh hehehe

My personal experience is: enrolled the thesis course part of the regular class then dropped it before mid-term. Re-enrolled the next term as the only subject. That way medyo relaxed at hindi rush ang pag-gawa ng thesis. Aside from the documentation may end product kasi.

that's why yung design project (our version of thesis in Computer Engineering)namin nung 5th yr. was semester long. i had many sleepless nights just finishing a feasible proposal. pagka-approve nung proposal it took us 3 rigorous months to do the program and present a prototype.

pag madali lang siguro yung approved topic sa thesis at kumpleto sa resources kaya isang gabi lang pero walang tulugan. :D

hmm.. ako po, ginawa ko ung thesis ng gf ko 2 years ago.. nag start ako Oct. 2002... Jan. 10 2003 ung pasahan... kahit lahat ng kailangan i-research, na-research ko na.. ung mga survey, samples, statistics, etc. naghabol parn ako... 6pm ung pasahan, napasa namin mga 5:30pm na... maiyak-iyak ako nun.. tapos cool-off pa kami nung gnagawa ko ung thesis.. la lang.. share ko lang story ko.. :bwahaha:

yeah, but does that mean you'll pass? labo ata yun. a thesis should be well thought out even if you dont need to do a lot of research or even basing it on published materials.

you can probably do it if you're one of those geniuses with a 200+ IQ.

Baka naman baby thesis lang yun? Yung thesis namin dati hindi pwedeng gawing overnight. Mahirap gumawa ng VB program ng isang gabi lang. hehehe

depende sa thesis...

sa feasibility study namin halos interview, minsan nasa field,

eg: yung sa gas station feasibility study, magbibilang ka ng mga cars na dumadaan sa street weekdays and weekend.

so dun pa lang hindi na kaya ng overnight.

kung yung actual writing ng paper, kaya yan... let's say meron ka nang mga journal articles and other sources of data already, kulang nalang sulatin, medyo kaya pa yun ng isa o dalawang gabi hehe

kaya nga thesis eh.

kahit na si gloria arroyo ka pa o si monsod o sinong "magaling" na economista (let's say you are writing about the economy), hindi ako maniniwala sa sinulat mo.

kaya nga kung isusulat mo lang....pero walang credibility para sakin ang mga ganyang klase ng thesis.

and it's not just the content of the thesis that is important.THE WHOLE PROCESS OF researching, making arguments, EDITING them coz of newly discovered arguments (which you think is better than the first...)...these are the OTHER HALF OF A THESIS.the other is typing words in a very presentable and formal manner and citing references.

Thesis is supposedly a semester long process. If it will be done just overnight, then this is not a thesis, this is merely a typing job. Reproducing somebody else' thesis or works.

For my thesis it will be impossible to do overnight. I am a computer science student in admu and we are working on a Lecture Viewer for MIT (not mapua)... The core of the program is made but we are suppose to imporve it... our thesis subject starts next semester but we are already starting now... Mukhang whole semester talaga yung for me...

2 terms yata ang thesis namin dati pero nagrequest pa kami ng extension dahil malayo ang site ng pagtatayuan at pagtesting ng thesis namin (Retractable Sail Windmill powering an Airlift Water Pump, hehehe hitech no?). sa iloilo pa namin kinabit. pinaship namin sa barko yung mga materials namin tapos nag airplane kami papunta dun. 1 week yata kami dun, sa bahay kubo kami natutulog. halos araw araw at gabi gabi parang fiesta dun dahil ang sasarap ng mga pagkain na sinerve sa amin ng host namin (isang professor sa school pero hindi namin professor )

si driven thesis mate ko. everynight din kami nag pusoy dos and tong-its bago matulog, while discussing our thesis :bwahaha: muntik pa nga nagfail yung thesis namin.
