Buying from shops who then shop calls another shop

Ever Experiencene this? When I was in College I see it as unethical.

You ask for a certain part, they dont have stocks, but but will Call another shop so they can providde you with one. Downside is you can be getting for a lesser price if you just went to what shop they called. Good side is you dont have to move around.

Now that I had work/Business experience. I think it is just right.
