Question lang. Have any of you guys tried personally dealing with a Muslim?Yes, they may be typecasted, but they are typecasted for a reason.
Case in point: I ran down someone with my Civic in the late 90's, a construction worker who happened to be a muslim from Basilan. Okay naman ang usapan initially. I brought the guy to a hospital, paid his bills AND salary during his stay. (BTW, he crossed the road with his back towards it, poor me didnt brake in time so obviously its his fault). Tapos he started reporting for work na uli. After A MONTH, this idiot started complaining of headaches etc etc etc. Which he claims to be caused by the accident. So humihingi na naman ng pera. NAKNANG!!! Siyempre I refused. The hospital certified him healthy eh. Imagine, I was harassed via phone by some 'Datu' ekek from the muslim community from bicutan. Umabot na sa point where death threat na talaga nakukuha ko and I had to actually change my home number!
Finally nagkaayusan and the idiot of a _____ just asked for boat fare money for him and his FAMILY back to basilan. Hay nako, above and beyond na ata yun. but anyways we just had to throw money at the problem just to make it stop.
If you call this rational, then may Allah be with you.
For you guys who want more of these people around. Well, i just wish you luck and that you dont encounter them in the same situation that i did. All I can say is that i relate better to the people who are against this and am not sitting on some moral high ground of equality, freedom, righteousness, etc.
On the topic of having churches or chapels in malls, im against it. Whether Christian or Muslim. But then again, no one asked me![]()
Ah'Sahla Ah' me'kom to you all! hehe
I had the good fortune to have met and known two Muslims: One was my schoolmate at UP Diliman (who went on to become USC councilor), and the other was my wife's classmate in her graduate class, also in UP Diliman. Both are fun-loving, decent and very intelligent individuals, much like a lot of Christians I know.
PK, marami ring mga Kristiyano ang ganyang nanghuhuthot ng pera sa kapwa. I hope that idiot mulcher gets what he deserves, pero sana huwag tayo mag-generalize based on a single experience. Remember na ilag din ang mga Muslim sa atin dahil may mga Kristiyano na kumakain ng baboy at aso. Judging them outright is not making things any better.![]()

I know sir Bogey and thanks!Yung sakin naman is they couldve asked nicely and appealed to my family's good side. Nakaka-unnerve talaga if you get death threats, especially for something so paltry.
In any case, maximum tolerance naman ako. Im still a human being after all.....
and yes, my suki in Greenhills is a Moslem. Pwedeng isoli kahit lagpas na one month ang dibidi.![]()
Maybe it is just isolated case. Any person with the same mentality as with your experience will do the same regardless of his religious afinity.Originally posted by pajerokid
Question lang. Have any of you guys tried personally dealing with a Muslim? :
I worked in the middles east for three years and been in the place where majority of people are moslems. They allowed Christians as an expats but not to practice their religions. They pray five times in a day. During the praying times they call "sala", whatever you do you have to stop. If you are eating in a restaurant, stop and go out and only continue after the prayer.
Moslems are also great people, fun loving, and caring to their co-workers. They greet us Merry Christmas and gave us gifts during the Christmas season.
Admittedly, their images had been tarnished by the extremist. But still we can co-exist with the moslem brothers and sisters.
Ah... but the old "hit by a car thing" is common... I have two friends who have been through that.Originally posted by pajerokid

But I do think that religion of any sort at a mall is kind of silly... it debases the religious temple to be there!
Remember Jesus: "make not a mockery of my father's house" (not sure if those were his exact words... am not a Bible scholar)... it is saddening that so many Churches and holy shrines sprout vendors like crazy... and that conversely, to get people to go... we have to put the Church (or Mosque) in this case INSIDE the marketplace (or mall)... this does not speak well of our relative values, where people cannot be bothered at ALL to leave the mall to worship.
But I'd prefer if the homeowner's association take a stand IN GENERAL on temples, whether pro- or anti- instead of giving priority to the Catholic one... this doesn't speak well of Christian values.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Tondo-different religions mostly fil-catholics
Quiapo-filipino muslims
May pinagkaiba ba ang crime rate between Tondo and Quiapo?
I agree with Bogey, meron muslim, meron kristyano, meron catoliko, meron buddhist, meron din protestante na "salbahe" so we should not make a generalization unless we have certified proof that muslims commit most of the crimes here in our country.
I'm a devout catholic pero sana bigyan natin ng equal rights ang muslims, kaya hindi maayos ang problema regarding religion, hindi kaya dahil dito kaya lalo nagkakagulo?

wala po akong ginagawang judgement ha..
i think ung reason behind the fear is that baka matulad yan sa mosque dun sa Quiapo; pulis na mismo ang nagkwento sa amin na ung snatcher na muslim e dun tumatago sa mosque pag hinahabol -- in effect parang nagiging safehouse.
ang sa akin lang, para kuwits lang, wag na lang nila payagang magtayo ng chapel/mosque/synagogue/temple/whatever dyan; basta general open area na lang where everyone can worship or have an assembly.
Religion, ironically, is one of the leading causes of war. This thought has stuck with me for the longest time, until one day i realized that, actually, religion(or God) didn't fail man; man failed God .
Think about it ;)
The thing i wanted to point out in my story is the death threat aspect. yes, we all have stories on how 'victims' will try to squeeze your hard earned peso from you just because of an unfortunate circumstance.
But do all people will resort to death threats while asking for favors?! Again, im just sharing this. And again, i wish none of you nor your loved ones go through something similar.
The whole point of this is not just allowing or disallowing a mosque or whatever per se. It is the things that people associated with these symbols do which is.
On that note, all I can say is that only time will tell if whatever decisions are made are wrong or right. No one's complaining on the status quo though. Just a thought.
-------
Niky, yeap! I'm with you on that one. Having worship places in malls is just too convenient. I mean, where's the sacrifice, right?
Sabi nga ni Sir Theveed, kapag religion na pinagusapan, eh tyak magulo. Even Christianity broke up into groups. But I dont think that is a way to judge people, your experience sir PK is not confined to moslems alone as others said. Its unfair to generalize it.
Pero the idea na i bo BOYCOTT ang GREENHILLS para lang huwag itayo ang mosque, means ayaw "nila" sa muslim and they are seeking symphaty and support from others by prejudice (being a moslem would invite trouble to the community). And that is the bad part of this move....Kung ayaw nila itayo yung templo dun, then do it the legal way (provided if they can).....
I remember the same appeal that spreaded a few years back on Tommy Hillfigger being a racist (monkey daw pinoy)...and there was a call to boycott all his product line...But what happened? Eh puro imprted ang suot ng mga pinoy kundi eh out ka ....so forget the boycott!!...So what I am trying to say is, boycotts are senseless if it wont give you satisfaction anyway, drive the muslims away and you drive away your source of pirated DVDs, bibili ka ng orig sa Malls....

sana naman they look at the situation from both parties point of view. IMO discrimination yan
No matter what religion, most discrimination stems from the fear of the unknown.
The structure of Islam is not common knowledge, hence, majority of people, affluent and poor, get their information from wherever they can, most often media.
Media is often controlled by Christian groups, use christian ideals etc.
So what will an ignorant rich mother in a posh village do when she hears that a muslim is planning on putting a mosque that will attract others to an area where her children often go?
Scream bloody murder, because, according to TV, these muslims are "Radical extrememists with a taste for blood".
Any person regardless of religion will be violent if felt that he or she is being oppressed. Media just positions muslims as opressed more here in our country so the muslims sometimes act their roll out. That or they might carry stigma from a place they were trying to escape, as previously stated, a muslim from Basilan.
So many peaceful muslims i have met you wouldnt ever guess were from the Islam faith.
Besides, a person who can have discipline to pray more than 3 times a day everyday regardless of the times must speak well of character.
I'm a christian and rarely fulfill my once a week duty for mass. Haha
im against the building of a mosque... im not against muslim... well they do have a right to build a mosque as long as sa kanila yun lugar... pero ewan, parang ayoko talaga sila sa greenhills eh...
omg! im close to greenhills and i like to go there for the dvds but it becoming Quiapo or Taguig(nvr been here) is a nightmare! good god! i love strolling around GH ksi i luv looking at overruns and dvds and games. sana hindi masira GHThey urged all residents to join the boycott if they do not want Greenhills "to be the next Quiapo or Taguig where we will be living in perpetual fear for our lives."

Th dumbest guy in this controversy is probably Rex Drilon, the COO of Ortigas & Co. for trying to please everybody. He built a Catholic Chapel and he's now building a muslim mosque.
Greenhills is a shopping center, for cryin' out loud. Its perfectly okay not to have any places of worship within its confines. Look at all the trouble he's gotten himself into.
Please don't give me bleeding heart speeches for muslims. Anybody who has fought in Mindanao will tell you not to trust a Moro and not to turn your back on a Moro. Mindanao Muslims are a different breed. Sorry, but that's the way it is. We don't like them, they don't like us.
Now what would you feel if you invested your lifesavings in a house in a decent village and then here they come building a damn mosque which you know will send property prices dropping? That's the problem of all those people who bought houses in Greenhills and condos in Annapolis. Their opposition is perfectly okey because they are fighting for the safety and monetary value of their homes. Wouldn't you do the same thing too?
Peacful coexistence? Bah...Never happened...Never will...
