Should the Philippines reconsider nuclear power?

    Reasons:

    - expensive cost of power generation using existing power plants (world's most expensive electric rates)

    - expensive cost of power generation using renewable "green" sources (wind, solar, etc)

    - safe nuclear power station designs available.

    - "safer" alternative nuclear fuel possible through use of "Thorium" (more plentiful ore, less nuclear waste)

    - alternatives to long term storage for nuclear waste is possible (using atomic alchemy)

    - past nuclear accidents happened on very old nuclear stations including the 40 year old Fukushima nuclear power station. Most existing older stations have upgraded their systems to present safety standards.

I think it is usually privately owned and operated but with a government contract for a guarantee purchase for the electricity it would produce.

The problem is our current administration is going for the "green solution" for power. That means investments more towards renewable power solutions like solar and wind. Unfortunately, with the same "green solutions" come with a big price tag. Also these solutions are mostly unreliable to generate power uninterrupted over a day.

Personally I do like renewable power solutions but they are not matched to the economic reality of the Philippines.

    I'm open to the idea.

We as a country run by this type of bureacrats ain't ready for nuclear power. The bad track record of taking care of gov't properties and ningas-kugon mentality are just too glaring and rampant.

I'm ok with Nuclear power as long as it is ran and managed by foreign companies... Maybe from EU or US wag lang China... I don't think Filipinos in the Philippines are disciplined enough to manage it with risking a catastrophic outcome..

7 countries offer to solve Philippines’ power problems | Inquirer

the most “concrete offer” was from South Korea, which offered to rehabilitate the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) for $1 billion at their own cost, Arcilla said.

Yeah! Now's the time to endorse nuclear energy as we're on our way out already [emoji16]

And more taxes too! After all we spent a lot in our covid efforts [emoji23]

Should the Philippines reconsider nuclear power?
