    Hi peeps,

i'm planning to get a few for the house, gawin kong hedge. Some questions:

    1. What species of bamboo ang pwede?
    2. Ok ba ang golden bamboo? Pwede ba sa paso lang? i can add some posts to brace the stems midway.
    3. Hard to maintain ba siya, in terms of trimming? i heard these things grow like crazy
    4. Would a small hedge help make the air a bit cleaner?
    5. The nearest place to get bamboo would be cartimar. Kaso wala akong idea kung pano iuwi, it won't fit in the car. How long before it grows back again?
    6. Yung pinatputulan, tutubo ba yan if i stick it into the ground, or talagang via runners lang siya dumadami?

    tia

We have bamboo at the perimeter of house. I think it is Japanese bamboo. It's not hard to maintain. We don't even water it too much but you need to trim the lower portion of the trunk when a stem grows para sa upper portion lang yung leaves. There's a type kasi that grows tall and another that is just right in length. One tree costs about PhP1k. I think they sell cheaper in the province (Sta Rosa or Los Banos).

I suggest just buy the bamboo and plant it yourself. This is what we did.

It's not messy compared to bamboo. This is what we have on the other side of our perimeter naman. Yun nga lang it does not grow as tall as bamboo.

Snake nest magnet kasi yan kapag napabayaan

What? Seriously?

Depends on the variety? We had the big ones at home before. Kinain yung foundation ng terrace.

Basta wag lang mapabayaan na lumago ng todo and always give time to inspect the surroundings.

The only maintenance you'll do with it is cutting them. You can even eat their shoots. Use them for survival situations. Make furniture. If you're creative enough, even make bamboo fiber panels by adding resin and placing them in molds.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?

hmm...any alternatives po? Wala po kasi kaming katulong...more importantly antatamad naming magwalis :D

Pero mabubuhay naman siya sa pots right? Sementado naman po yung area. Wala namang ahas sa amin(at least the ones that don't walk on two legs) pero madaming pusa :p

i'm planning to put a few pots of bamboo na nakahilera sa pader namin. i thought about making the wall higher but i'd like to try a bamboo/plant hedge para madaling itanggal kung sakali.

Here is the type of bamboo we have:

Birds of paradise is an alternative nga. This is what we had at the other side of our perimeter but I don't have a picture kasi nakalbo na because my lab pulled out all of it. But it's not messy unlike the bamboo. This is how it looks like:

peeps, what if i attach a bamboo grid, i.e.

    bamboogrid.jpg

to our concrete wall, then plant some creepers? Di kaya mabulok yung grid come rainy season?

And nakakasira ba yung creepers ng concrete? i've seen a few plants force its way through solid concrete.

BK, treated ba yung bamboo grid? Pag hindi mabubulok yan after a while dahil sa ulan/moisture. Pag treated, mas tatagal.
