wow thanks everyone! i think i'll go with wowiesy's advice hehe... dito ko bibilhin yung body tapos siguro lenses and accessories sa HK. i'll go with the local manufacturer warranty i guess, mahirap na kung sakali hehe

although meron palang extended warranty (1 year coverage will be upgraded to 2 years) available sa HK... hmm... would it be worth it to buy the body in HK and get the extended warranty instead?

pre, wala sa camera yung pag moving shot. kahit low-end na Sony or Canon makukuha yung shot na yan, provided broad daylight... kasi magiging sobrang bilis ng shutter speed (1/125 or less of a second) kaya freeze motion talaga yan. kung gusto mo yung blurred yung background (motion blur), diyan mo kailangan ng camera na merong manual shutter speed, kasi gusto mo, slow enough yung shutter to blur the background but fast enough na klaro yung subject. yung Pro1 at 8080 kaya yan, although there are many less expensive cameras that will let you do this also (basta merong manual aperture and manual shutter).

for lower MP, basta high-end na "prosumer class" digicam usually top-notch ang image quality. Olympus C-5060WZ (5 MP), Olympus C-7070WZ (7 MP), Canon PowerShot G6 (7 MP), and yung mga equivalent Nikons, Konica Minoltas, Sonys. The G6 in particular, is excellent (f/2 lens will extend your capabilities in low-light flashless shooting).

more MP is useful when you crop (or blow up) your images, print large prints, require high resolution and maximum detail (example, you are printing brochures and stuff like that). but other than those, liability na yung large files sizes and the tendency for more image noise... but since most of the best cameras are high-MP, there's no reason to dismiss a camera just because it has more MP than you need.

example, the famous Canon 17-40 mm f/4 L costs 49,900 at the canon showroom... sa HK mga 38,000+ lang, sa US mga 36,400... yikes!

then later on ay pinag tabi sila (1st& 2nd shot)

Tanong ko lang po kung naka bili ka ng Canon 350D? Magkano at saan po kayo nakabili? sa Hidalgo, HK or sa Canon branches sa pinas? Nagtanong po kasi ako sa Canon branch nila at nagulat ako sa price nila. 68k Canon 350D kit with lens and battery grip pero ku walang battery grip 63k. Yung 350D body made in japan, yung lens naman is taiwan. Buti naman at japan pa yung body kasi may lumabas na made in malaysia o china. pero mataas pa rin ung price nila sa pinas. kasi sa US sa JandR.com website yung price nila around $899. Baka po mayroon kayung ma rerecomenda na store. Tight budget po kaya naghahanap ng mas mura. Salamat po.

may isang tindahan sa megamall (infomax ata yung pangalan) 56,000 yung bigay para sa kit (boxed 350D kit including camera body, charger, strap, battery, 18-55 EF-S 'kit' lens... no battery grip and no mem card). i'd expect quiapo stores to carry the same kit for around 52,000 more or less.

laki pa rin ng difference sa HK street price. yung official prices sa HK mga 58,000 for the 350D kit

Personally, I'll pick the EOS 20D instead. Originally, I only wanted to get kit lens since I dont want to double my cost by buying seperate lens. At first, I wanted the 350D but I found it way too small for proper handling. The kit lens that came with it, fared poorly as evidenced by the reviews above. Getting the body only would entail one to spend another $450+ for a Canon EF-S 17-85 mm lens, which is out of the question for me. And despite that high price (for the lens), lots of people in other forum still moan about its inadequacies. So to play safe, I decided to get the kit lens to experiment first before making significant investments in lenses.

On the other hand, the Nikon D70s felt really professional with its proportional handling size. But its 6mp, USB 1.1, lack of proper softwares, and a battery grip, etc. made me think of other alternatives.

So after reading a couple of reviews and increasing my budget, I think its best to get the Canon EOS 20D. The kit lens is much better than the 350D, which fits well with one of my requirements. And this camera has significantly more features to speak of, etc. etc.

standard kit lens ng 20D is also the same cheapo EF-S 18-55 bundled with the 350D. the price difference between a 20D and a 350D can get you a nice lens (like the 17-85 IS), so that's definitely a consideration.

i'm leaving for Hong Kong later hehe, I just might end up with a nikon D70s instead if I can find a good copy of a 24-120 VR lens...

And speaking of the 18-55, I suppose this is my opportunity to tell you my "tale of two lenses". There are actually three versions of the 18-55 EF-S lens. There's the original from the Digital Rebel and EOS-20D kit, the USM version of that (not sold in the US, apparently), and the "Mark II" version. When Canon sent me the Rebel XT in March, they sent the body only kit. Thinking the lenses were optically identical, I moved the "old" 18-55 over from the EOS-20D that I had just purchased. So I had to trash all my test photos and start over, which is why this review was so delayed. More on this subject later.

sir musta ang 350D purchase? hehe. thanks to this thread, nabuhay uli yung pagnanais ko na bumili ng digital na SLR as i've said before on this thread, nanakawan ako dati ng EOS30 (body, lens flash) ... i just thought na sige ipon lang ako ng ipon until talagang seryoso na ako't bibili na... didn't know what to do since ang dami ko pang mga lenses dito (macro, wide angle, a couple of zoom lenses)... dati nung lumabas ang 10D at yung 300D parang attractive na.. but since masyado ako busy sa work.. di ko na gano napagtuunan ng pansin..

right now.. nabuhay nga uli.. and i asked my friend who's got a shop in hidalgo in quiapo... nasa 51,000 350D with 18-55mm lens... pati yung ibang accessories napagtanungan ko na ng price (battery grip, extra battery, flash) mukhang makakatawad pa ako although hindi ko pa binabarat dahil di pa naamn talaga ako serious buyer..

kung di lang talaga may napakalaking paggagastusan ako next year eh.. nakoo.. nakabili na siguro ako...

mura talaga prices sa US kasi. ako tingin ako ng camcorder sa pinas, P36k ($600 almost) yung JVC GRD270. sa US $300 lang. so since may training ako sa new orleans last march sa US ako bumili. half the price!
