Great car for mountain runs like Cannonball. It'll give the WRX a run for its money. The WRX might have more grunt overall but the 208 is very nimble. Lots of grip for a front wheel drive car too.
Power is relentless as long as you're within boost, so getting to 200 kph isn't a problem. Clutch is very forgiving and steering is light but communicative. Exhaust has a nice rumble when you first step on it but nothing too noisy. It's actually a decent car at low speeds and everyday driving.
Surprisingly, the suspension feels very sturdy. It glided through meteor craters on Dalton Pass with as much poise as a Forester. If I brought my Jap econoboxes through the same road it'd be rattle-fest.
Space was also quite good for a subcompact. With my normal driving position, you can actual fit 2 people in the back without having to cut their legs off, something that can't be said of the 86/BRZ.
As usual with Euro cars, aircon is weak. The touchscreen head unit also takes a lot of getting used to. It was very difficult navigating through my iPod, and equally as taxing was connecting my phone via Bluetooth. Ah, French quirkiness at its finest.
Overall, an interesting alternative to anyone looking to stand out from the crowd of MX-5s, 86s, and WRXs with a sensible 1.95M price tag.
Actually if you maintained a little over 40 kph the entire trip you'd make it within the 12 hour limit. There wasn't much traffic during the run because we started at 2am. We only got caught up behind trucks traversing Dalton Pass but traffic was still generally light so you can overtake them.
Going flat out on Aritao was pretty tiring because there were hardly any straights and you had to clip your apexes to maintain speed. Since I wasn't able to sleep the night before, there were moments that I was beginning to doze off. Losing even just a few percent of concentration totally messed up my line, and that's when I realized how much focus you really needed when pushing a car hard.
The run was open to everyone, with a big bike, car, and small bike category. Entry fee was P4,000 per head.
The route started at Royce Hotel in Clark, with pitstops in Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, and Baguio. You'll have to get your card stamped at each pit stop to ensure that your run is still valid.
This was the course of the run:
Aritao was definitely the most challenging and enjoyable part because of the never ending corners.

Yup, seemed modified. Sidepipes for the exhaust, I would assume that the intercooler has been upgraded too.
Stock Michelin Pilot Exalto tires (205/45R17). Grippy enough with good feedback. Seemingly soft sidewall though since I experienced a blowout after passing through landslide debris.
