ZTE is just the tip of the iceberg. There's also Northrail, Southrail, the Comelec computerization kickbacks, the Nani Perez case (2M IMPSA bribe), the Jose Pidal account, the Jocjoc Bolante fertilizer fund mess, the 500k pay-outs in Malacanang, etc.

Honestly, I don't need hard evidence to sift through what is right and what is wrong. You simply have to analyze the BS reasons given by Malacanang, and ask yourself if it is believable.

I find it extremely laughable that just because there is no viable alternative to Darth Pandak, then we should just turn a blind eye to all the shenanigans around us. That's what the Germans did in WW2. Hitler turned the economy around, and restored Teutonic pride.

And Erap? IMO, he's no longer a force to contend with. Let him daydream about his ambitions.

Mejo malayo na tayo sa thread topic (i know it's my fault)

    Back to the article above...

What can be done to fix the BOC?

    fire everyone? ya sure.

Then u still have replace the people u fired.... with human beings who are also corruptible.

If u were able to put really honest people there, they wont last long.

Coz someone will just talk to someone higher up... and those honest people will be gone...

The importers will always find a way around the tax obstacle.

    -----------

GMA is no more corrupt than Marcos, Cory, Ramos, or Erap.

The opposition just cant wait for their turn to rake in the money.

    Things wont change.

The next president and his/her friends, allies, supporters will just do the same thing.

    Same old same old.

As always, sir uls, you know how things work in the real world.

BTT: wow, this is the first article written by VBS that actually made some sense. May his writing prosper even more.

    Nope.

Instead of trying to change the system from the outside (rallies, rallies made to look like prayer meetings, people power complete with stage and live bands etc.)

idealistic people should go inside the system and change it from there...

    Run for office, get elected.

Like that catholic priest did in Pampanga. He became governor.
Ya, that's how Hitler fixed Germany up, by going inside the system. Of course, the idealistic person should follow the Hitler example only up to 1937. 1938 onward, nasiraan na ng ulo, haha....

One good example of how Hitler beat the system is when he put up the Todt Organization. Their most famous achievement is the autobahn system. If it was left to the DPWH ng Germany at the time, they wouldn't have had autobahns to quickly bring their forces to Poland.

Oo nga, napalayo na tayo sa topic

BTT: The "Customizer" has a valid point. You may enter any system more idealistic than anybody else, but still, the SYSTEM is too big for any one person to change. But nonetheless, in such situations, I'm always reminded of that famous Chinese proverb..."A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

OT ulit: To those who think the system can't be changed, why am I also always reminded of that short story Cheese Station C. You know, about Hee and Haw, na palaging pinapakita sa mga leadership and values seminars.

We won't go anywhere without taking that first crucial step, and sadly, some Filipinos think that since nothing will come out of it, they'd rather do nothing and rot away. So, since nothing will come out of the investigation or the same old people, whether pro- or anti-, will enrich themselves in office, then what's the use? Tsk tsk tsk. We should change that outmoded mindset.

Just an idea: Would it help weed out corruption if the lifestyle checks being conducted by the Ombudsman actually succeeded in nabbing some big fish instead of just small fry?

as if any big fishes in the Phil (political or financial) ever gets anything more than a slap on the wrist hehe.

if a good enforcer slaps on the cuffs and the big fish says "lagot pamilya mo mamaya" hehe, will you bother?

yun sakit ng bayan is already at the root of it all. the people. no matter which president you change, ganun pa rin yun. unless palitan mo silang lahat.. but with who?

dapat things should start at home.. educate the kids, teach them the right way.. and start the change with yourself and hoping that everyone will follow.

The corruptors are not in govt.

Even if the Ombudsman succeeds in catching a big fish, the corruptors will just corrupt the replacement... and it's business as usual.

What if the replacement refuses to be corrupted?

Then someone calls up someone higher... and the replacement will be replaced in no time.

    Business as usual.
