Active Shooter at Washington Navy Yard, At Least 4 People Shot « CBS DC
WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — At least four people have been shot and an active shooter is on the grounds of the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast D.C.
The U.S. Navy says three shots were fired at 8:20 a.m. Monday at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building at 1336 Isaac Hull Ave. D.C. police say at least four people have been shot.
The Navy Yard is on lockdown and a “shelter in place” order has been issued, the Navy says. About 3,000 people work in the building, the Navy says.
The 11th Street Bridge is closed in both directions. M Street is closed near New Jersey Avenue near 11th Street.
Naval Sea Systems Command is the largest of the Navy’s five system commands and accounts for a quarter of the Navy’s entire budget.
It builds, buys and maintains the Navy’s ships and submarines and their combat systems.
Police from multiple local and federal agencies were responding along with SWAT crews.

BBC News - Navy Yard: Swat team 'stood down' at mass shooting scene
One of the first teams of heavily armed police to respond to Monday's shooting in Washington DC was ordered to stand down by superiors, the BBC can reveal.
A tactical response team of the Capitol Police, a force that guards the US Capitol complex, was told to leave the scene by a supervisor instead of aiding municipal officers.
The Capitol Police department has launched a review into the matter.
Aaron Alexis, 34, killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard.
