i read, that the manufacturer of the old, classic mini, weren't making money on the car.
they were selling it too cheap, according to ford.
Yesteryears compacts are now subcompact in size today.

The new Minis were generally unreliable. They're fun to drive but they frequently break down and are very expensive to repair.
The BMW gen1 R50/53s were clunky but very DIYable, surprisingly affordable to maintain. Early days of electronification....simple. The first & last of the supercharged. The most MINI, the closest to gokarts...but... the most jarring.[emoji4]
The gen2 R56 was softened & had a Peugeot Prince engine that suffered from turbo, DI Carbon buìldup, high pressure fuel pump & fire issues. The early N14s were the worst to own. N18s were the improved versions. They were numb compared to the 50/53s.
The gen3 Fs are the most refined & sorted...like most modern euro premiums, loaded w/ complex brains. The most Dealership-dependent. Drive dynamics were brought closer back to gen1s. Best of the bunch car-wise? Perhaps. Best MINI? Purists would say not. They're more BMW....much like the new FWD 1-Series.
The most valuable of the modern ones? Hands down, the '06 GP1. The good USED have been seen selling higher than sticker($31k).
