how about comparing it to other vans, like starex or hi-ace? di ba talagang matalbog ang adventure because of its rear leafspring suspension?

    boybi,
I haven't ridden any hi ace yet except for the old ones. Yung starex naman e ganun din. di pa ako pinalad na sumakay so I can't compare.

Nandoon sa garage (PMS siguro) kasama noon mga Kia na 4x4 na mataas din.

saw the vito in CATS edsa. 1.8+M na pala now. pero body colored na bumpers. ganda sa labas pero sa loob cheap tingnan. the 2nd and 3rd row seats are fixed bench type. di pwde tanggalin to accomodate more luggage. di din pwde i-rotate. wala din palang airbags and ABS. sobra ng mahal ang price for a very bare van. kung nasa 1.2M siguro ok pa.

they're offering nga pala 0% interest for 1 yr installments.

Bibili dapat kami nyan noong 2002 because my mom liked it, so tingin kami sa CATS when we looked at the showroom display unit ok naman except that the interior looked bare when we were about to close the deal napansin ko 4 units of Vitos were parked outside CATS awaiting service pero pansin ko wala yung front end ng mga ito, so I was thinking at 1st na ang malas naman nito 4 sila sabaysabay nabangga then I decided to take a closer look, pag tingin ko wala ako makitang sign ng bangga, so silip ako sa loob yun pala walang makina yung 4 na Vito dahil pinapaoverhaul daw, for a car na at that time 2-3 years old ang pinaka luma this seems unacceptable for the engine to bog down so prematurely, so di namin tinuloy yung purchase namin and we got an Exped instead.

I have had a Vito for 5 years now. (In fact, it is due for replacement; I am just waiting for the Grand Starex CRDI to arrive.) It was purchased from Commercial Motors. The main problem I think is that the units that were brought here were not "tropicalised", i.e., not meant for our harsh tropical weather. I encountered a lot of electrical problems, mainly due to worn out connections, which had to be painstakingly traced. I was also surprised to have to change a number of major components which are expected to last longer, like the instrument cluster and the accelerator pedal. The CRDI engine is the saving grace. It gives nippy performance and fuel economy. Parts used to be a problem, since CATS and CMC do not routinely stock them. We found a good source at Enkat Trading in Evangelista, Makati. They have a sister company, Constellation Auto Repair in Dian, where I now have my maintenance work done. Maintenance costs have been above average, but that's a Benz for you.

    Mercedes Benz Vito Inquiry

Good day to all fellow tsikoteers!

Me and my wife are planning to buy a second hand van for our family and our business… My wife doesn’t want to buy a Japanese or Korean van, kasi common na daw and American vans are out of the picture because of the massive consumption of gas.

Is MB VITO a good buy? Performance and parts availability wise? We used to own kasi a 230E and 190E sedans, so far wala ganu sakit ng ulo… I’ve read kasi some horror stories of vito from carsurvey.org, now I’m having second thoughts of buying one…

We saw kasi an MB VITO ‘02 pegged * 6++K, which is quite reasonable na po siguro…

We also saw a Volkswagen Caravell ‘96 diesel and ’01 V6 which is tempting too…

PLS… help naman po, we’re planning to get it na kasi next week… Post naman po your inputs regarding the VITO, the hi’s and low’s po nito and sa CARAVELLE na din, please…please…please… fellow tsikoteers…

    Maraming salamat po!

Fellow tsikoteer wreckless recently acquired one (see photos). You can try and PM her. Another tsikoteer, Odell, has a Caravelle (though it was damaged in an ambush). You can try to PM him.

The local Vito (aka Vito L) is a Mercedes Benz commercial van (cargo fan) fitted with windows and seats. So don't expect a very plush interior. Bench seats were standard but most were reconfigured locally into captain's chairs. The Vito is made in Spain (I don't know whether that's good or bad). The rear a/c is tacked on. The wheels are steel rims (with full wheel covers).

The other kind of Vito is the gray market V-klasse vans. They share the same body as the Vito L but come off the production line as fully outfitted pasenger vans. I checked out a unit in Greenhills last weekend. Medyo laspag na. But to give you an idea, it had alloy wheels, dual sliding doors, six passenger seating (all leather captain's chairs), folding tray tables (just like in business class), OEM curtains, OEM coat hanger, dual sunroofs, power windows (including the rear windows). What it didn't have was rear a/c. Other gray units are configured differently so I can't say if all V-klasse units didn't have rear a/c.

The dean of the school where I studied had a Vito. He sold it because the maintenance costs were too high when the Vito was used as a daily driver.

ganda naman ng vito ni wreckless ... i've pmed re my queries

    tnx po sir otep!

do you know po other shops that sells 2nd hand vito's?

we saw a color green unit in buendia/edsa car exchange, kaso hindi captain seats and medyo madami ng gasgas yun plastic sidings ng interior sa likod 'tho '02 model and 40k odo (according to the caretaker, patay daw kasi yun battery) pero parang ginamit pang hakot yun unit, pati tint kasi may mga gasgas and konting punit, rear seats my problema pag fold

we really need to scout and mag tiyaga para makahanap ng ok na unit... tulong naman po mga sirs... tnx ulit

The V-klasse will share some parts with other vehicles in the Mercedes family. Some of which were not locally sold also so don't count too much on the dealer for support. Don't count on finding interior trim parts locally for the V-klasse's high end interior. However, Mercedes Benz does have a good third party product and online support so parts will be available in one way or the other. Just visit Benzworld to know the best online stores just in case you can't find a part locally.

The only 'local' Benz we have here is the MB100 (and it from Korea). The ones we've had through the years were all gray markets/parallel imports. And parts/services weren't really issues.

Do considier that the Vito has a CRDi engine which may require specialist skill and equipment should a repair be needed. The rest of the vehicle is pretty conventional.

The locall Vito has hard plastic sidings which are tougher and easier to clean than the V-klasse. But they do show scratches more easily. A good detailing job can sometimes hide the scratches to a point where they are not irritating anymore. The window tint can also be changed (at least it's not the glass that is scratched). I'm not too sure of the folding rear seat issue.

    Re: bench vs. captain's.

A lot of passengers actually prefer bench seats. This is because when no one is occupying the adjacent seat, they can have a wide seat. Some passengers even like to lie down sideways on the benches (not exactly the safest mode to travel but I guess its acceptable when crawling through EDSA). Benches offer a little more flexibility like cramming three persons in a two person bench for short trips (try that with captain's chairs and one will sit on the floor).

Whatever you do, stay away from the gray market V-Klasse, parts availability is very defficult, suspension is always collapsing it has a different suspension, engine, plus interior parts than the localy sold V Class, which is Ok naman except for the seats which are locally manufactured and installed. Expect a to pay premium maintenace cost after all it is a Mercedes Benz (though lubication service can easily be done outside the Casa).
