    well I really love my car it's a 1987 Mercedes Benz 190e 5 speed 16V
with 2.3 liter engine. It has about 124k miles and some upgrades, like carbon fiber interior, lowering springs, struts, black out tail lights, remus muffler, etc...

Now I want to send it to my house sa Pinas. Just a ballpark how much will it cost me taxes and all? I bought it for about $2,000 US$ and I have paperwork for it. I'm willing to pay I think up to $4k for everything is this good enough budget? I will appreciate any help...salamas

Get in touch with Alpha Cargo or some other balikbayan box company. They usually also do this.

I agree....a balikabayan box provider or cargo forwarder could give you more information.
I also have read something about waiving taxes for used cars for returning balikbayans. It was quite some time ago, don't know if this still applies though.

thanks sa mga input. i will definitely check alpha cargo and maybe LBC? Hopefully they will help me out with everything taxes, paperworks, etc.

It will be really a big plus if I can get a break since I am an OFW for several years na and this is a 20 year old car man.

Hopefully by next year ay maisend home ko na ini!

Has anyone on the forum done this before? Like first hand experience?

how much did your car cost in 1992? multiply that by 2 and more or less, that's how much you'll have to pay in taxes.

customs will not base their taxes on how much you bought your car, or how much your car will cost now. rather, for cars more than 5 years old, they will base their taxes on how much your car cost on its 5th year depreciation cost.

if say your car, brand new in 1987, cost about $20K and it depreciated to about $10K in 1992. multiplying that by 2 (eg. $20K) will be the approx cost of your customs duties.

to anyone in the logistics business, please correct me if i'm wrong pero ito ang pagkakaintindi ko noong isang araw na inisip ko din ipasok ang isang kotse from abroad.

You might want to consider bringing it in to Philippines via Cebu .... wherein hindi ganun ka garapal ang mga customs official and faster ang transactions. Sana merun kang kamaganak na taga cebu to arrange it though.

I have called up Alpha Cargo and LBC USA ndi na raw sila nag aassist on exporting cars to PI.

So I guess Im on my own to find an international cargo fwder. I don't know the details kung pano kukunin sa customs, ek ek since I am overseas.

I bought the car for about $2k with receipt so hopefully ito ang pagbabasihan ng value of the car. I think it was about $45k new in 1987.

I can do Cebu if this is better and cheaper then dalhin na lang sa Manila.

Try Forex Cargo. May flyer ang Alpha Cargo dati about returning OFWs nakakapagtaka na hindi pala nila ginagawa yun.

    Try this thread.

When I considered bringing my car to the Philippines the companies I contacted actually discouraged me from doing it as the taxes and fees not to mention bribes would equate to more than the value of the vehicle. It would be cheaper if you found the same model car in the Philippines and just fixed that up the same way your current car is now. Lots of people in this forum have asked about bringing cars to the Philipines but only a few have found it to be economically wise to do so.

By law importing of used cars is now illegal unless you have the right connections. The sop asked by customs is even higher that the taxes and duties you have to pay so why bother. Cebu is a big no go. I brought in 1 of the few BMW 3 in 1979 under balikbayan papers after what I've been thru I just buy from my gray market friends.

    Your money your choice.

hindi ko na alam sistema ngayon, but back in '91 my dad brought in his '86 model 190e (I4/5MT) from the US too, and iirc, the cost tripled (say $20K for the car, and $40k to cover taxes, shipping and sop).

i dont know. he loved that car too much to leave it in the US i guess. but its all right coz its my car now

    +100000 ako dito.

been in that situation few months ago. had talked to a Top Ranking Custom broker, but still all the hustle, money, time and effort may not be worth it, unless you just wanna burn few millions and lots of calories and take dozen of paracetamols.

When I first saw your thread I hesitated to reply. Why?

    1. Malalaspag kotse mo, to think 2.3-16 pa naman yan. I did not want to discourage you initially...
    2. You'll end up paying so much more above the value of the car. Even if you buy it really cheap like you said, and consequently pay double for taxes, napunta saan yung taxes? Just so you can enjoy it sa Manila? Just get one sa Manila, visit the MBCP I'm sure some members know people who are selling. www.mbcp.tk is the shortcut link to the forum of the MB Club of the Philippines.
    3. With the amount of money you'll be spending - say $2000 for the car, then what, another $4000 for the taxes alone. For that same amount of money you can get a similarly priced car in Manila. Check the Classifieds of MBCP http://com5.runboard.com/bmercedesbe...lippinesinc.f3

Finally, it's up to you if the car is truly worth spending all that money for. I mean if the cost is just change to you, go ahead. We're just after being cost effective here and warn you against what you could lose in the long run - just so you can enjoy your car in Manila.

Good luck and I hope your decision is well thought of.

Isn't it so irritating that while importers have less duties due to free trade agreements, ordinary people can't do squat?
