To all GLK users, is it normal for the GLK to have low NVH protection?
We can hear the tricycles, jeepneys passing by even if all windows are closed. We can even hear people pounding on the streets while they are working.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

The GLK is an indirect descendant of the G-wagen's you see romping around the bushes in Africa. Basically putting it, the vehicle was designed to be utilitarian. Your comments are q bit subjective, what may be noisy for you may just be normal for me. You cannot really block road and ambient everyday noise. You may add sound deadening material if you like, but that involves taking a whole lot of car mechanicals, for a complete installation.
My suggestion is, sell your GLK and get the upper M class or if you really want that "cathedral quiet" ride, get an S class, not a 4x4 though.
At present, I have an S320. Double paned window glass, 1 inch thick foam insulation inside the body caverns and floor, plus that automatic door closing mechanism ... peace and quiet.

^ wow, that new huh? Have you tried asking CATS for an explanation? Or maybe its not that late yet to get an M? The last of the over engineered at all costs Benzes rolled off the assembly lines about a quarter of a century ago. Re: the W123, 124, 201 etc. Todays cars are too involved with the bean counters. Still, congratulations on your new G. Get to know it better muna, who knows, you might like it as it is in the long run.
Curious lang ako bro., mahal ba talaga magrestore ng S320 ? Or any old Benzes for that matter ?
Meron kasi S320 (or S500?) na inabandona sa Greenmeadows Ave., from the outside, mukha naman okay. Flat lang gulong and really dirty, a telltale sign na matagal nang nakatambak dun.
I'm just wondering bakit parang hinde na pinakelaman ng mayari.
Pwede ka naman magpadagdag ng insulation sa mga pinto. Just look for a competent installer, Benz kasi yan, daming electricals, konting mali baka masira. Or pwede mo rin ipa-bulletproof. On all the bulletproof cars I've been in, it feels soooooooo quiet inside.![]()
We have a restored W126, it cost us 230k just for the mechanicals a bit more for the interior and exterior
The W140 may cost more to restore due to its electrical complexity; if there is anything wrong with the computers, you might as well forget about it
A good running one is about 500k. why dont you get one of those instead
*OP
Try test driving an A-Class or a C-Class; if either is better insulated then you can probably complain
It isnt in the lineage of the Gelandelwagen. that is a proper off roader. The GLK is a crossover, same as an X1/3 or an Q3/5
MAHAL talaga. The W140 range were the flagship models of MB back during the day. (90's). Everything was power this and power that, hindi biro ang diagnostics pag nagkaroon ng trouble code. Add to that, you need a very competent workshop to deal with the car. AFAIK, there are still a lot of W140's roaming the streets in fairly decent condition, this is my second W140 already, no regrets naman. Though I have to use a bit of elbow grease to fix the odd bits.
Basta hindi lang lumubog sa baha, or pinabayaan ng todo, IMHO pwede pa ma-salvage ang kotse. Just be prepared to spend though.
Yes, have CATS do an evaluation. You can also surf the internet for topics on that specific model, chances are, baka hindi lang ikaw ang may complaint na ganyan.
Ron, pag natuloy, first dibs on the coolant reservoir. Yung sa akin ngayon naka steel epoxy yung leeg.![]()
GLK is Benz's entry-level crossover vehicle.
Did you test drove before purchasing?
Available pa ba sa CATS yung GLK300? Gas kasi para sakin masarap drive.
