galing ng korea
i mean ung cultural exports nila
k-pop, k-beauty (korean cosmetics), korean telenovela and film
pati korean food
that's called soft power
idol daw nya si Lino Brocka when he was still studying.. kaya pala may mga social relevance yung mga movies nya..

There are movies that are clearly for mere entertainment, then there are those that are critiques of today's society. Parasite falls into the latter category, and it's a disservice to the team behind the film if it gets dismissed as just another way to pass time for 2 hours. That's just me though.
Quite pleased to know that even for someone relatively disinterested in the film as you say you were, you acknowledge that the parasitism goes both ways. Yes, the Kim's mischievously found their way into the service of the Park family, but likewise the Park family leech off the domestic services of the Kim family for relatively infinitesimally small pay. What's sad is that the former is seen as a fictional one-off, but the exploitation of the working class is something that is seen as normal, acceptable, and legal behavior of high society today.
Save for the deceptiveness of referring their family members as anonymous contacts and deliberately getting the old help fired, the Kim's were actually more than qualified and capable for the jobs they got. The kids were good teachers, the dad was a good driver, the mom was a good housekeeper. Yet they had a dearth of opportunities prior to Min's referral of Kevin - which highlights another sad reality of society today, it's not what you know but who you know.
Also compare sharp contrast of Da-Song and Ki-Jung - one will inevitably end up in art school with all the resources available to him, while the other will never have the same opportunity to hone her superior talents as she struggles to make ends meet.
Ultimately, it's a strong reminder that where you end up in life is affected very, very significantly with where you started. Yes we all know of stories where people transcend the socioeconomic castes they were born into, but these outliers are few and far in between compared to the vast majority who end up living similar states to what they were born into.

Korea has a system to protect their film industry and their government invests in it.

Parasite was a really good movie and deserves its Oscar and Cannes.
Each scene offers a good double-click of the rampant socioeconomic inequality and lack of upward mobility that the younger generations of today are facing.

Have to watch Parasite again. Nakatulog ako halfway thru the movie.
