First things first: YES, Rachel Weisz is not anymore with The Mummy franchise BUT if you're not watching this movie just because of that small fact - well… it's your loss not mine. Let me tell you what you'll be missing…

Tomb of the Dragon Emperor brings a refreshing Oriental twist to The Mummy franchise wherein we were accustomed to mummy infested pyramids out in the Egyptian desert. With that, you need one of the biggest martial arts actors today, Jet Li, who plays as the principal antagonist cum mummy reincarnate (Emperor Han). Michelle Yeoh, another big ticket Chinese actress was also reeled in to join the ranks of those opposing Emperor Han as the wizard Zi Juan. Compelting the main cast of Chinese actresses is Hollywood newcomer Isabella Leong as the assassin Lin.

The story begins with flashback to the past regarding Emperor's Han conquest of the world and how he and his entire army was mummified. It then returns to the proper story timeline where the O'Conell's have finally retired from their various adventures both in the field of mummy vanquishing and spying during World War II. Rick (Brendan Fraser) is trying to take up fly fishing while Evelyn (played by Maria Bello) is busy writing books depicting their past two adventures (The Mummy and The Mummy Returns). Their son, Alex (played by Luke Ford), has now taken up after his parent's tomb raiding adventures.

The movie still features the fast paced and relentless action which is trademark of the past two movies. The CG animation though is better executed than the previous movie and has resulted in a very good blending with the real actors and actresses. However - the development of the other characters, especially Zi Juan's relationship, could have used an additional 15-30 minutes of screentime and the influx of too many protagonists might have contributed to this also. There are also some questionable moments in the movie but it's all forgivable.

Overall, this is a good movie to watch this weekend.

just saw the movie this afternoon....two thumbs up po ito para sa akin. It was nice that the makers of this film explored other cultures in terms of mummies.

Sana gawan din nila ng movie yung mga mummies ng ifugaos!!!hehehe
Ano kaya gagawin nilang title nun?

Did the movie mention anything about what happened to the character portrayed by Rachel Weisz???

Did the character portrayed by Maria Bello replace the love interest of the character portrayed by Brendan Fraser?

Rachel Weisz declined to do this movie because of the shooting schedule, which requires her to stay in China for 3 months. She said that she couldn't do it because of family matters.

    I have - a day before it was released... that's why I posted a mini write-up. Hehe.

Don't mind those *critics*, it's a an action/comedy movie for crying out loud - not a candidate for the Oscars.

I may watch it if Maria Bello captures Rachel Weisz' character. Evelyn is a rather unique character which lent itself well in the first 2 Mummy movies.

Meh. I may watch it anyway if I don't have much baby doo-doo duties at home.

Given a choice..... I preferred the Mummy movies over say, the Indiana Jones movies.

Para sa akin,- iba ang pagkaka-portray ng character by Rachel Weisz....

Sa ating mga Pinoy,- nothing beat the original....

Saw the movie last Sunday with the kids!

I had my initial apprehensions because of the bad review given in Inquirer. Plus a more major issue is Rachel Weisz not being in the movie. Her character and herself is one of the pillars to the success of the Mummy franchize.

Since I had a low expectation going into the movie house, I enjoyed the film. Although I sorely missed Rachel, but Evy is not a major character for this movie. I am not sure if they toned it down because Rachel was not portraying it anymore. As mentioned in a lot of reviews, the chemistry between Rick and Evy O'Connell (Brandon and Rachel) was not evident in the film unlike in Mummy Returns. Maria Bello only did so-so job portraying Evy. (sorry but I am a big fan of Rachel)

The other peeve that I have here is that I did not like the acting of the Luke Ford who was portraying the adult Alex O'Connell. He was very boring which is sad because his character was critical to the film.

Other than this, I enjoyed the film especially for its CG effects and fast paced action. I definitely would recommend you to watch this.

It's predictable since I watched the first two. Still it was a good movie but I feel that it needs something more... some scenes were too fast paced and true, character development of zi yuan needs smoe more screen time and rachel is not anymore evelyn... well I just prefer rachel being evelyn again.

DOn't be bothered by the critics just watch the movie but don't expect too much.
