It seems that a lot real stupid radio programs are airing on FM stations these days. On my way to work this morning, the PUV that I was riding on had the radio tuned to Starfm and they have this program where they call unsuspecting people then pull a prank on them. This morning's show was about a fictitious lending company is going after a large amount "allegedly" made by their guest (the accomplice) where the lending company is going after the mother of the guest because the guest was not able to pay.

The mom was so angry because the "sheriffs" (the station DJs) had started harassing her, even to the point of threatening the poor old lady that her daughter (the accomplice) will be made to dance nude in a girly bar if the poor lady does not pay. This made the victim so angry that she started cussing on air. Did the DJs stop? No, they continued to add fuel to the file until finally, they told the lady that it was all a joke. A stupid joke.

If I were the lady, I'd sue the asses off those DJs and radio station because what they did nearly gave the poor lady a heart attack. What were those butt-brained DJs thinking? Why did her equally stupid daughter think of pulling a prank on her mother like that? Damn, that's pure "pambabastos" and "walang pag galang". IMO, this shows how degenerate some young people are today. I won't subject my mother to that kind of embarrassment on air - more so to such anger that might cause here heart to pop.

Young adults - and most probably children - are mostly likely listening to their radio program and they might think that pulling a stupid prank like that on one's parents is okay.

Hey don't get me wrong. I'm no prude and I do pull pranks on friends but never on my parents.

Have the days of good FM programming really gone down the toilet? Sheesh.

Isn't there an MTRCB equivalent for radio stations?

I think this is an indication of how much the values of people are getting so much worse.

If I were to listen to FM radio then my BP would have shot up early in the morning. I feel the same way about television and movies. They are showing the wrong values eh.

I don't think there is any. But, the KBP or Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas self-polices its members so an offended listener can complain there and have the licenses of these erring DJs revoked. You can also complain to the NTC and have the PA or CPCN of the erring station suspended.

Sure, some listeners think they're funny pero dammit, the pranks they pull and some of the program contents are downright stupid.

Its not as if TV programing is any better. Take channel 2 and 7 during the noon to afternoon slots as my prime examples.

I do believe that the MTRCB is monitoring the stations also...

A short while back Magic 89.9's Sam YG and company got suspended for having an "indecent" radio program...

My List of Decent FM Radio Stations in Manila:

88.3 (Jam) >> I fixed my transistor radio's potentiometer to this frequency.
    89.1 (Wave)
    89.9 (Magic)
    92.3 (xFM)
    93.1 (Monster)
    94.7 (Mellow)
    96.3 (WRock)
    97.9 (Home)
    99.5 (RT)
    100.3 (RJ100)
    103.5 (Max)
    105.1 (Crossover)
    106.7 (Dream)
    107.5 (NU)

    Everything else that suck IMO:

90.7 (Love) - top ten list is 30 years old
91.5 (Energy) - half the time DJ ranting, half the time crappy music
93.9 (iFM) - pretty much useless
97.1 (Bgy. LS) - used to be good until they joined the suckbandwagon
101.1 (Yes) - you won't hear anything but clearly transmitted noise
101.9 (For Life) - flood the air with showbiz and nothing else
102.7 (Star) - never listened to, but TS described clearly how they suck

Decent stations still outnumber those that suck. Never knew that until now. But more radios in Manila are tuned in to the crappy radio stations. Well, that's why the good people invented the MP3 player and noise cancelling earphones.

Know what, I jam our neighbors' radios whenever they exceed comfortable listening volume. I use an FM transmitter with variable frequency setting. It's the one that you can buy at CD-R King; the one with the LCD display. Lolo happened to have an old radio antenna, so I hooked up the transmitter to the antenna. Guess what, I shut the heck out of their radios!!! Sometimes when I'm trippin', I hook up my PSP and play irritating noises so they'd shut off their noiseboxes. Real fun. If they still won't turn their radios down, I'd get lolo to build me a 5-watt transmitter with a 100m range.

Guys who drive cars everyday are lucky since they have full control of their HU's.

Just goes to show the kind of people they're trying to please.... Observe the entertainment on TV for both Channels 2 and 7, who are, no doubt, jostling for the #1 position. . .

I think there is but as usual, they don't give a damn until someone complains to them. These are the government agencies who are too lazy to get off their collective asses to monitor their area of responsibility. The station I listen too has had one or more of their on-air radio programs canceled and DJs fined and suspended for violations.
