The two-hour special rely's on experts' knowledge and understanding of history in order to predict the future. Experts from the fields of engineering, botany, ecology, biology, geology, climatology, and archeology will paint a picture of what Earth will look like in the days, weeks, months, years and millennia after humans are gone. Clues to what could happen after years of no human activity can be found in both the DMZ between North and South Korea as well as Chernobyl. Humans have barely set foot in the DMZ since 1953. As a result, in 55 years all traces have disappeared of 5,000-year-old rice paddies that had been carved into the landscape. Rare red-crowned cranes are new occupants of the marsh. The area around Chernobyl has revealed just how quickly nature can bounce back. While rats and mice flourished initially, they disappeared, to be replaced by wild boar and other big predators like wolves.
It will be shown in History Channel. Sa cable namin its Ch44. not sure with other cable

dynosaurs and all others before them became extinct because they do not have the ability to modify their environment. small brained, with apendages that were not designed to hold tools, and without the ability to form social groups that can be harnessed to achieve a common goal, all those creatures were destined to be either overtaken by evolution or die from the aftermath of a striking asteroid.
not so humans. by the time an asteroid or comet is found headed towards earth all of us would put our efforts together to build whatever is necessary to destroy that threat. even if such effort would fail humans have power plants that can provide the necessary energy to provide the light required for raising food crops. it will not be enough for 6 billion humans, but it will be enough for a few million to survive and repopulate this planet after the dust from the impact has settled and the earth is once again ready to bloom.
and to be overtaken by evoluton? there are no other creatures on earth now that no matter how they evolve can possibly overtake human evolution. and we will most probably evolve into something better, stronger and more intelligent. hopefully wiser, too. i think we humans will be co-terminus with the earth. we will cease to exist only when the earth is totally destroyed.
there are only 2 threats that we have no defense against. 1st is the sun exploding like a super nova and destroying the whole solar system when its hydrogen fuel runs out. and 2nd, ourselves. there will always be some scientist out there who is making subatomic particles collide into one another. and what are those 2 subatomic particles that should never collide, the result of which is a black hole (sorry i forgot the name)? the resulting black hole starts out infinitisimally small but grows to the size of a pin head in a few years. and sucks the whole solar system in a few centuries.Last edited by yebo; March 22nd, 2008 at 11:41 PM.

We don't know exactly when an asteroid or comet will hit considering new ones are still being discovered. There's only one country actively devoting resources to cataloging/finding asteroids and that's the US (and with a small crew at that).
It's not just lack of light that'll be the problem. If a large enough asteroid hits the earth, the resulting dust and debris thrown into the atmosphere may cover the earth and cool temperatures drastically, causing snow to accumulate even in the tropics.
I find asteroid impact good reading because they've actually occurred and will occur again.

A database of all impact craters on Earth:

.........Also the question with survival is who will be that few million in the list? Will those not on the list sit idly by and die or will they take matters into their own hands?

3M Color Stable series are all above 50% TSER. RFID readable through the tint, stays good for...
