Watched this last sat out of curiosity, since I've been bombarded wherever I go about it's epicness.

I'm a war movie nut, I was expecting a Gladiator, Saving Private, The Patriot or even Braveheart type of battle scenes. Medyo konti pa para talagang epic. Although it's a giant leap from the last pinoy action movie I watched.

As for the flow of the story, yep angat sa naka gisnan kong Pinoy movies of yesteryears.

Ok na rin!

haven't watched it, but sabi ng kapatid ko maganda raw.

It's such a shame, all this time we've been bellyaching about the lack of "quality" local movies, and when one comes along, pinaikli pa yung runtime niya sa local movie houses.

Ganda, grabe lang talaga bilis maubos ng tickets. Sa bandang dulo ng movie parang gusto ko tumayo at batuhin yung screen nung ipinakita mukha ni Aguinaldo. Hehe.

I don't watch Filipino movies because of the poor quality and cheesiness of the stories. I made an exception for this since my kids were curious. Although its still rough at the edges, the story and quality has greatly improved. Well written and played by the actors. Worthy to be in the Oscars.

But its the moral of the story that really bites. Its a reality check for Filipinos. As General Luna has said that in all the battlefields he went, the worst enemies of the Filipinos were Filipinos themselves.

Daming tinamaan sa line na yan at angkop na angkop talaga sa mga Pilipino. Sa US nga pag TNT ka ang sabi nila magtiwala ka na sa kano wag lang sa pinoy. Kasi pinoy pa yung mas magsusumbong sa embassy.

While watching those scenes, I cant help but think na, putcha parang ganun na ganun parin ngayon..definitely wala parin pinagbago ang mga pinoy.

My thoughts even wandered to, what if China invades us or is this how we fight our enemies in the south..wow parang I can see current politicians doin the exact same sh*t. Indecisive leaders, military officials leaving their posts/fronts just to attend parties, businessmen striking secret deals with the enemy, while the ordinary soldiers die in the field.

I have not watched this but I read the interview of Inquirer with the Director (a HS schoolmate. my brother's batchmate then).

What struck me is that this movie was finished a year ago pa. Director Tarog wanted a full year of marketing for this movie (which is still classified as indie).

A rich businessman who is a frustrated artist funded this project to the tune of 80 million petot. Kumita na since latest I've read is that it raked in 100 million already.

The movie wants to portray the characters as "human". No villains, no heroes, just humans.

because wall naman talaga wala naman talaga tayo history. We were all led to believe that what we experienced in those days is the same as what the American Forefathers did in Independence of America, it's an American Propaganda wverytime they colonize.

These characters: Rizal, Bonifacio, Luna brothers, Aquinaldo, Jacinto were all compiled hero stories to make us feel that we gor independence.

I studied critical history and you'd surprised to know how many of those taught in history books are untrue. Say for example, Leonor Rivera being wooed by a Spanish friar. Yes it sounds bad, imagine a priest lusting on a Filipina, but the actual truth is gusto gusto talaga ng Filipina noon araw ang mga mestizo and being a priest na sobra galing magsalita lalo pa attractive. Rizal is sour-graping.

And what about those several nationalities of different women that supposedly Rizal had relationship with. of course, the history books will portray that they are model girls types not the medicore / regular ones. Have you seen a regular conservative German girl like Josephine Bracken. They look like a girl with gigantism disease. And who really verified those womanizing that Rizal claimed eh sya lang naman umalis at nag-travel. Most basted people want to get out and travel alone. Halatang-halata na ayaw sa kanya. Rizal's writings are so tragic which reveals a lot about his mental state that time, similar to bullied but turned out travel blogger of modern times.

Actually, yun failure and anger nya contributed to the writings that led to the revolution. The question is why did he reject to join the revolution. Ayaw din nya lumaban, all talk but not action just like regular bloggers of today. During his execution, he was shot na naka-talikod, of course, the Spaniards would want him nakatalikod so as not to make a hero or martyr of him. But brave or real heroes suddenly face the executioners kung talaga hero material sila.

Long story short, the Luna brothers are described as narcicists, ego maniacs who never truly cared about the revolution but used the revolution to further their careers. Bonifacio, is like your ordinary jeepney driver of today who doesnt think about consequences but sugod-sugod na lang because of emotions. And Aguinaldo is yes the closest thing to a true politician, who lived and survived until the late 70s.

So much useless history taught to us in school, but the fact is the Americans bought us for $20000 from Spain, because Spain at the time was in brink of bankruptcy and civil war. Kahit na sinabi na kesyo the Katipunan daw attacked the rear of Intramuros while the american armada in Manila bay, everything has been decided na and for show na lang.

Do you even wonder how the independence was declared in Cavite yet Manila is still the capital. The KKK was in Csvite but Americans are in Manila, ask any Filipino now, have they been to Kawit? Do we recognize that place worthy of visiting. Wala. In fact, the cavitenos are the most nationalistic Filipinos but Manilans dont want to recognize that.

nationalism filipino style is just like watching Boy Abunda or Kris Aquino. if you want to really experience true nationalism, go to the Smithsonians, the Louvre, and the Vatican museum. Doon talaga tatayo balahibo mo when you read human exploits about heroism and nationalism.
