EX-MODEL IS "KEY" TO MARCOS WEALTH

A former swimwear model from Down Under might provide a link to another money trail in the search for the late Dictator Ferdinand Marcos' $10-billion plundered wealth.

In an article published by the Australian newspaper, The Sun-Herald, Evelin Hegyesi is reported to own a company, Austraphil Pty. Ltd. that is said to be the "sole and only beneficiary" of a Marcos secret account - the Azio Foundation.

Hegyesi, who modeled bikinis in the seventies and had once appeared in Playboy Magazine, is now a 57-year-old millionaire living in the eastern suburbs with a waterfront mansion and several investment companies, The Sun-Herald reported. The article also said that Hegyesi bore a daughter, Analisa Josefa, named after the late strongman's mother.

The Sun-Herald said to have uncovered documents that indicate some of Hegyesi's Australian companies as having financial conduits with other secret Marcos accounts kept in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The Australian newspaper said details of the "mysterious Sydney link" was made public after Swiss authorities lifted the country's strict bank secrecy laws and allowed investigators access to secret bank records of the former dictator, who died in 1989 while in exile.

Austraphil was said to have received the privilege of siphoning the Marcos loot after Hegyesi gave birth to her daughter, the araticle said.

It reported that the model-turned-businesswoman had set up Austraphil just one year earlier on October 14, 1970, when she was just 23 years old and three months pregnant with Analisa Josefa.

On February 1971, Hegyesi's company bought a five-bedroom mansion in Sydney's most expensive area, Wyuna Road, Point Piper, for $210,000 or equivalent to P101 million in today.

The Sun-Herald said land title papers and annual reports showed that Austraphil made a loan of $250,000 from a Swiss firm called Finanz AG of Zurich, a subsidiary of the Swiss SKA Bank, now the Credit Suisse.

This was the main bank supposedly used by Marcos to front for his Swiss secret accounts, The Sun-Herald said.
