in my point of view, parang mababaw yung illusions niya eh. His illusions trick people by using the camera as a tool. I am not as impressed like the others who don't need the camera

    ahhh nice thread

about the levitation thing....david blaine is using the balducci technique, yung sa TV special nga lang nya e inedit na nila sa studio yun. hehe! kaya pinakita from the back pero di pinakita ang face ng audience, its a really good technique kaso angle prone sya, dapat sakto ang angle mo or else buking ka, downside of this technique is u cant see both feet rise up the ground. but its pretty effective lalo na pag mga bata ang audience mo.

there is another method sa levitation...developed by COREY KING, called the KING'S RISING levitation. imho, i prefer this over the balducci coz u can see both feet actually float in thin air. aabot pa ng mga 5 to 6 inches ang lulutang mo.

    check this link guys.

he does use cuts... When you see him flying 6 inches of the ground, he has a harness na and the audience is changed na from the original one

For the television special, Blaine performed the Balducci levitation in front of several different groups of people, and the camera was there to catch their reaction. The method he used for this is the Balducci method, described above. While videotaping these various performances, the producers keyed in on the audience members with the most visual reaction. After the Balducci levitation, the producers of the show had these same people stand by for another taping of the illusion - this time the camera would shoot from behind the audience members to get a
clear view of Blaine in action. The audience members were told that this second performance was to show them how magicians could use wires to levitate. And this is exactly what happened. A small harness and rig (just out of camera view) was set up and Blaine performed a standard wire-suspension.

What Blaine did was a camera trick - known as a post-production edit. The audience at home watched the second (wire suspension) levitation performance, with the audience reaction of the real levitation edited in. It was said, in the television special, that no strings or wires were used to perform Blaine's levitation. This is true, no wires or strings are required. Unfortunately, we never got to see Blaine's real levitation - we saw a wire-suspension.

Other than a few camera edits, Blaine did a wonderful job with his first television special. This is one magic special worth owning on videotape.

You want cool performance outside the regular US performers?

Go to YouTube and search for the great... CYRIL TAKAYAMA

    He friggin ROCKS!

Cyril is an award-winning magician of the highest order. In 1994 F.I.S.M.(Federation International Society du Magique) awarded Cyril top prize in the Grand Illusion Category. It was this prestigious award, in what is known as the "Olympics of Magic" that broke Cyril onto the international stage.

If you can find T.H.E.M. clips as well, they're great... (Totally Hidden Extreme Magic of FOX, I think, but got cancelled after 2 seasons)
