hi, am sorta new here and this is my 1st post... would like to get inputs from you guys on the current resale values for the 2004-2006 civics and mazda3s? which is doing better? are the resale values of both just comparable lang? or may tagilid?

also, will resale values of cars really differ if the units are 3-5yrs old? or will the difference be felt when they're 6-10yrs old na?

lastly, i noticed in tsikot that there are a lot of 2nd hand 2004-2006 mazda3s for sale compared to the 2004-2006 civics. are people holding on longer to there civics?

    would appreciate some tips. thanks!

Depreciation is much stronger in the first 3 years. Depreciation will then slow down as the years past, most notorious being the 1st year. 7th gen Civic I see are selling for as low as P370K even as high as P550k for some. There are some who are selling their 8th gen Civic (FD) pero taas parin ng price bawas P100k lang at most from the brand new price....

People tend to hold onto Civics for a long time... whatever the generation. Civic owners tend to be "loyalista"...

Many people selling Mazda3s? Well, there just isn't the same amount of brand loyalty... and a lot of people are selling them off to get the new Civic (gotta go with what's fashionable... ).

Resale values, from what I've seen, are comparable. But if you're buying secondhand and are asking what the resale value of your car will be after another five years, it's likely the Civic will have a better value... though I don't know how much better, since the 7th Gen isn't as popular as the 6th gen or the 8th gen.

But you don't really buy a secondhand car and sell it thirdhand expecting a profit. You're still going to lose from 200,000 to 250,000 pesos in resale by that time.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

i actually want to get a bnew car -- choosing between mazda3 or civic. am just weighing things carefully kase di rin kase maliit na investment and what if 3-5yrs from now, i might need to sell the car... ano ba ang di ba mahirap ibenta sa dalawa and mas mataas ang resale by then? do you think may enough following ang mazda3 na 'in' pa rin siya 3-5yrs from now?

am confused on what to get kase ang ganda talaga ng mazda3 (and am really tempted by it. hehehe!) but medyo mas stable / reliable kase honda.

maybe the FD is really in demand now na taas pa rin price kahit 2nd hand?

how does the mazda3 compare naman?

am asking about both kase am still a bit torn on what car to get... a bnew mazda3 or civic.

Let me answer your 3rd question first mag Civic ka na, which is my opinion. There is a thread in the comparison section comparing the two its this one http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40193

Regarding 2nd hands its possible nga since the FD is so in demand and so popular buyers will be abound and when buyers are abound we can be assured that resale values will hold quite well....

Oh, okay... kung brand new Civic, then the resale will likely hold better than the older Mazda3.

The Civic has more power, somewhat better fuel economy (though we haven't run it back to back against the revised Mazda3), and the availability of a 5-speed AT. Both cars have a good ride and similar steering, though I'd rate the Mazda3's rear suspension as being better if you're a... *cough*... spirited driver. I'd rate the Mazda3's front seat as more comfortable for heavy guys (The Civic's front lumbar support is uncomfortable for some heavy guys, nobody else seems to have this problem) while the Civic has a bigger back seat.

The Civic's resale will be positively affected by the fuel economy and power of the 1.8 liter engine, which means it will stay in demand well into the future. Mazda really needs to update their line-up with 5-speed ATs and stronger engines in the future, but the next Mazda3 is still a year or two away. I don't know what Toyota was smoking to introduce their "new" Corolla with a 4-speed AT and the old engines... those just won't cut it against the Civic.

IMHO, i think the resale value of civics are better than mazda beacuse mazda pulled out from the Philippine market before and just came back with the mazda 3(correct me if im wrong). for me, honda's reputation remains the same. they are very reliable and high resale value and its true that civic owners tend to be loyalist than mazda owners.

or maybe im being bais because i own a honda civic 2000 and the worst problem lang binigay sakin is yung aux fan. other than that it runs excellent. just remember the timely oil change and tune up.

given the choice between mazda 3 and civic... i would have to go with the civic.

by spirited... you mean lahat ng lubak, dinadaanan? hehehe! or cutting corners without slowing down?

am not heavy naman so i don't think i'll have that prob with the civic. hehe!

Used to drive an 07 fd, now driving an 07 3, now I'm around 160 lbs, I guess that's heavy already (but I'm 6') and I was suprised when I borrowed the fd that my sister now uses, and *#$%*!, those seats are hard (compared to the 3)!

Yes its huge but I also want to point out that their main rival was the Mazda 3 and Ford Focus so medyo di malakas competition. Now that the new Altis is around the corner it might be interesting. Pero I for one am confident the Civic will still be able to maintain their lead in the compact sedan class.
