If you have the 1.6L it's underpowered for the car. We are looking to buy a 2.0L version here in the US and that already feels underpowered for the car unlike the 2.3L version sold here.

Yes, you have a automatic with manual mode and a 1.6L engine. To move from a stoplight you need torque not horsepower and the 1.6L just doesn't have much lowend torque to move a heavy car. Try manual mode and shift it on your own from the stoplight and see if it gets any better. Fact is the car is a econobox with good handling on the curves not a drag car so it won't be fast going straight but should perform at the corners.

The MAZDA3 is really a heavy car which requires a minimum of a 2.0L engine to drive well. This is much like the Opel Astra. This means you will have to press the accelerator deeper if you want the car to accelerate quicker from a standstill.
And if it still feels underpowered, you can always upgrade it with a turbo-intercooler kit from SPEEDLAB.

August 3rd, 2008 01:06 PM #6mabagal talaga yun 1.6l na mazda 3. mabigat kasi siya. even for the 2.0L medyo underpowered pa nga e. maybe for city driving its ok lang. but for highway bitin talaga yun 1.6L. you can't do anything about it unless u get the turbo package from speedlab which will give u around 150-160whp. it's an econobox afterall.

from a dead stop, manual mode on an automatic transmission won't get you there faster than simply mashing the accelerator pedal. all that mode helps you do is hold the car in a specific gear when you want to - it won't help you shift faster or develop more hp/torque.

What gasoline are you using for your 1.6 sir?
Try loading petron xtra or shell premium instead of shell super unleaded / e10. I happen to own a 2.0 and i feel the sluggish "arangkada" when using shell super unleaded / e10.
I know for a fact that the 1.6 is underpowered, but every bit of help counts.

Using premium unleaded will just make your wallet lighter faster since the car will gain no benefit from a higher octane gas.
*backspace--The Yaris is a smaller lighter car so it feels quicker but if you load it with people it will be just as slow and sluggish.
IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
