    press release:

    Mazda Unveils All-New Mazda MX-5

HIROSHIMA, Japan-Mazda Motor Corporation today celebrated the unveiling of the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 (known as Roadster in Japan) together with fans at events held simultaneously in Japan, USA and Spain. The all-new MX-5, which adopts both SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and Mazda's KODO-Soul of Motion design language, will be rolled out to global markets starting in 2015.

The MX-5 is an iconic model representing Mazda's vehicle-engineering philosophy-the pursuit of driving pleasure. "Innovate in order to preserve" was the motto for the fourth generation, as the development team searched for innovations that go beyond simple evolution. Environmental and safety demands are much more stringent than they were when the first generation MX-5 was introduced 25 years ago, but the fourth generation stays true to the model's original aim of offering the pure driving fun that only a lightweight sports car can. It achieves this through the adoption of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and refinement of its appeal to the senses and sensations through which people enjoy cars.

The design of the all-new MX-5 reveals another layer to Mazda's KODO design language. The exquisite proportions make the driver and passenger stand out, and both the interior and exterior evoke the exhilaration of open-top driving. It is the most compact of any generation MX-5 so far and is more than 100 kilograms lighter than the model it replaces, promising a dramatic leap in Jinba-ittai driving fun.

As of July 2014, total production volume of the Mazda MX-5 exceeded 940,000 units and it continues to hold the Guinness World Record for the best-selling two-seater sports car. This highly-celebrated model has received over 200 awards from around the globe including Japan Car of the Year 2005-2006.

Moving forward, Mazda will continue to develop products which offer all customers driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance.

mazda should seriously price this under 2M, the current mazda is priced at 2.2M which is basically the same price as the STi. no idiot would buy this over the STi. if it's priced at 1.8M then it will be a serious competitor to the 86/brz and gc.

The last units of 25th anniv Miata were priced at 1.8m by berjaya. Hopefully this new one wont hit the 2m mark.

Wala hardtop so it will not be a good sell, the t86 and the BRZ demand have already dwindled and still these have roofs.

There renderings in the net with this model with hardtop, dapat yun ilabas Nila dito.

There will be a retractable hardtop model in the future. Retractable hardtop outsold the soft top model with the previous NC generation.

Kapag may power retractable hardtop, mas gusto ko na itong MX5 kesa BMW Z4, at half the Z4's price.

Ganda ng pricing nito, less than 1.8M for the 6-speed manual, and less than 2M for the auto. Priced at the level of the Toyobaru twins. Sa dami na ng Toyobaru twins sa kalsada, the mx-5 now becomes a more unique option for those who prefer open top motoring.

Sat in the RHD Miata at Pasig. Loved the seating position. I thought the hump under the left calf would be intrusive but once your feet are on the pedals it won't matter anymore. First time I've seen a car engine bay where the ECU and the battery are way ahead of the engine. You've have to read the manual to find the trunk opener so good luck to the mall guard who has to figure that out

Nope. You still have to unlock the engine hood via a lever under the dash.

The trunk's button is hidden. The Miata guys knew where it was though so I knew where to press after watching them.

The roof is light enough to use and stow with one hand.

First time in a long time I've seen a glove box with a key. It's not even in its usual position.

Didn't ask too much about it, I only remember that it is at the P 2 million range and shipments are still on the way.
