If this car doesn't get your blood going, you really really don't like driving.

That's a 12-second droptop. 12 seconds to go up, 12 seconds to go down. That's twice as fast as in a Mercedes SLK... and it weighs about half-as-much, too. It only adds about thirty kilos to the car... which isn't very much on a modern car, considering you can lose about ten kilos by changing to lighter rims.

It's quick, relatively fuel efficient, nimble, and (finally) weatherproof... what more do you need in a sports car? Damn, I want one....

Admittedly, until they produce a new Mazdaspeed version, you're pretty much limited to the 1.8 or the 160hp 2.0.

Still, the 160hp Mazda MX-5 Miata PRHT will scoot to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, fast enough to have fun in. And Mazdas have never been about straight line speed, anyway... they're more about carving through corners.

niky... AFAIK that 2.0L engine is good for 170 horses for the Miata.

nevertheless I want a powered hardtop version!!! perfect for Philippine weather!

Hmmm... maybe the quote was for the current Miata. With 170 hp, the 2007 Miata should be a tiny bit quicker, maybe 7.4 seconds to 60 mph. And there's always a Jackson Supercharger kit... who cares about the extra expense if you're already spending the money...

The price is also interesting... All indications point to the Miata PRHT coming in at 25k dollars... which means it could sell here (officially) for 2 million or less.

i like it, i like it a lot. 170 ponies in a 2500 lbs. car should be more than enough. plus like niky said, mazdas are canyon carvers, not straight line performers.

It's indeed a very nice car, lalo na yung black with wood trims, very Euro. Great reviews too, hailed by many as one of the best car in its class.

ganda. di talaga mamatay-matay ang miata kahit wala masyadong pinagbabago sa itsura. just like the porsche 911. dalhin na dito yan! naunahan pa ng rx-8 na meron na dito.

Wow, me RX-8 sa pinas! Astig naman! Lakas nga lang daw sa engine oil and gas nyan, due to the rotary engine. Nevertheless, astig parin! OT na ata ako.

Most car mags have the newest Miata doing 0-60mph anywhere from 6.5 sec - 7.1 sec.

It'd be nice to see one with a turbo. Handling is only half the equation for mountain driving. You still need ooomp for climbing and only a turbo will do.

Here, it already looks like a heated competition between the Miata and the Pontiac Solstice. I had the chance to eyeball a Solstice up close and I have to say it's a very well-made car. It's a bit slower than the Miata due to more weight and with the stock Ecotec engine. But, a new 260hp turbo version is coming out with GM claims of 0-60mph south of 5.5 sec.

I see many Miatas (along with BMW Z3's) here which isn't unusual because we have over 300 days without rain every year. I saw the first Solstice (black or a very dark blue) on the road a few days ago and it was sharp.... I might have seen a new Miata. But there's so many around here I got kind of jaded......
