Cannot be! hehehe even the top spec Fortuner 3.0V is already approaching 1.7M!!!

Just think of it this way dude, in Dubai there's this 4.0L V6 Fortuner. Think of it if Toyota would bring it here, I'm sure it'll be priced say 1.9-2M? The 600K hike of the CX-9 should be worth the ***ier sheetmetal (it is almost as big as the previous Expedition), exclusivity, better tranny and on road performance.

If you need the the four-wheel drive feature get the Pajero. If you're going to use the vehicle on paved roads 90% of the time get the CX-9.

The new Pajero isn't as good a mudcrawler as the old one, supposedly... as it's tuned more for on-road use than off-road use (and it does handle very well) and is also unibody rather than ladder-frame.

The CX9 has more space than the Pajero... that's according to a relative who just bought one to replace their Pajero (current V6 model, pre-facelift)... it rides very comfortably and has a great interior. But with the Pajero, you can get a direct-injected DiD diesel engine. Up to you which matters more... but if you're buying something at 2.6 million, monthly payments and maintenance will cost more than any amount of fuel you can burn, so I don't think fuel economy is an issue.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Hi guys, I saw the new CX9 this am, grabe the best. Great interior and space compare to PAJERO. Considering the price of PAJERO P2.508m, CX9 P2.59m, I think I ll go for CX9

Read the latest issue of Top Gear Philippines. The CX-9's fuel economy averages 5.5km/l mixed city/highway.

But then again, if you can afford this vehicle, fuel economy is the least of your concerns.

Is the price going down? P2.4M na lang? Or is that the cash price? The last time I asked, it was P2.6M but with a zero or low interest payment plan.

If P2.2M, zero interest, hmmm... worth considering. Otherwise P2.6M is severely overpriced.

    Driving on Cloud 9 :
    The Mazda CX-9 Experience
    By G-Daddy

There is no doubt about it. Everybody loves Esyuvees. Massive, versatile, and just plain cool, they are the vehicles of choice for a varied chunk of the auto market, from rap stars to actors, from politicians and their secret service, to the everyday Joe and his family. But in the face of an ever changing world where fuel economy is top priority, everyone's favorite vehicle is evolving and adapting. And so enters the next step in the evolutionary ladder of the SUV segment: the crossover Mazda CX-9.

Created primarily for the US domestic market, it was built on Ford's CD-3 platform that produced Mazda's mid-sized 6-series sedan. So unlike typical body-on-frame utility vehicles that make them little more than glorified pick-up trucks, the CX-9 is constructed on the soft-riding underpinnings of a luxury car. It also has the seating capacity of a small bus and the 100 cubic feet storage capability of a delivery van. No wonder Motor Trend picked this Mazda as the 2008 SUV of the Year, besting 16 other challengers that included American, Japanese and even European brands.

More than an award-winning and capable homemaker though, this SUV is one hot and ***y mother. Like Sarah Palin, except with more experience. The CX-9 is as gorgeous, sleek and flat as a sports car, but as long and titillating as a limousine. Seeing it roll down the street in slow motion, you can almost hear Roy Orbison croon Pretty Woman. The almond-shaped eyes and curvy lines make you want to caress it instead of drive it. This is the MILF of all cars.

For dimensional reference, the CX-9's body and engine is in between the Ford Explorer and the gargantuan Expedition, making it the perfect in-between size for our roads. For the high quality of its materials, however, it seems better compared with upper tier vehicles like the Audi Q7 or the Volvo XC90. In fact, it's even wider and longer than the biggest BMW in the streets, the X5; and inside, it's far more luxurious than the Bavarian too. Although hardly considered cheap, you can think of the CX-9 as a German branded SUV at 50% off.

For its large girth, one would think it would move about typically like giant SUVs: floaty and boat-like. On the contrary, it drives like a full sized sedan with an engine that delivers abundant amounts of oomph. Actually, it is at par, if not more maneuverable than a Chrysler 300C. A 3.7 liter 24-valve V6 powertrain allows this ballerina to dance and glide, with its weight to power tuned to perfection. This is probably what the marketers at Mazda were referring to when they launched their "Zoom Zoom" campaign. Perhaps they were at a loss for words to accurately describe its ability to go from naught to 100 kph in less than 8 seconds. With a tap of the accelerator, the vehicle moves with passion. Slam it to the floor and you may just go back in time. With the body streamlined for speed, it cuts through highways like a hot knife through butter and there's hardly a hint of body roll around corners, even during high speed turns. The ride is blissfully quiet and free from bounce, even through potholes and speed bumps. The transmission is so smooth, you wouldn't feel it change gears. And for a mid-sized SUV with 6 cylinders, it's surprisingly not very thirsty, doing around 8 km to the liter.

The cabin space is magnificent. It is the most organized instrument panel and dashboard we've seen in a long time. There's no giving up ergonomics in the name of style here either, as the controls for the stereo and cruise control are all in the leather-bound steering wheel. As always, we would've preferred brushed aluminum instead of wood panels here and there, but the use of faux-wood accents is very minimal and elegantly placed.

The seating for the cockpit is fit for a king. With vast elbow and legroom in electronically controlled captain's chairs for the driver and person riding shotgun, the front seats are like extremely slim and high-tech Lazyboys. In fact, with the contoured leather surface of the buckets wrapping around the lumbar section, it's more comfortable than most recliners. There's even a moon-roof for those romantic star-gazing moments with the wife. The second row slides forward and backward with so much ease, you can do it with one hand. And when slid to a reasonably comfortable position, the third row will have an equally spacious experience, with nary a chance for claustrophobia.

Finally, there is one slight drawback to the CX-9 - the P2.6M pricetag! Despite its beauty, rare features and capabilities, it would be difficult to convince people to spend that much for a Mazda, when you can buy two Toyota Fortuners for about the same price.

To be fair though, similar Japanese-American CBU imports like the Honda Pilot, Nissan Murano and Subaru Tribeca are typically more expensive because of import duties. Even Korean Hyundai has an equally pricey Vera Cruz. But among these mestizos, the CX-9 would definitely be my only choice, because it's the only unique cross-product of a Ford supplied engine, a Volvo engineered body and Mazda's racing design.

For those who can afford it, the CX-9 is certainly a must-have. The entrance fee may be a bit on the high side, but its multi-tasking powers as sports car, SUV, luxury sedan and minivan will save you the cost of buying another vehicle anyway. So for those on the fence, that fact alone should clinch the deal.

Breaking the molds of both convention and expectation, the CX-9 is a new invention that defies the norm for today's SUVs, and will surely become the industry benchmark for future vehicles to come.
