November 7th, 2013 12:30 PM #1284Got myself a Mazda CX-5 2.0L 4x2 AT 2 weeks ago (non i-stop but had a 100K discount) and had it installed with toys from sir parakito. My father and my uncle drove it from Mazda Greenhills all the way to Iloilo and they were all praises about the driving dynamics. I only had the chance to drive it recently and in a short way of putting it, I was smiling the entire time.
Likes:
- I just love the KODO design. It is more beautiful in metal than in paper.
- The steering is just solid - very responsive, it feels like it goes exactly where you want it to go and it seems like I can feel the position of the tires.
- Power is adequate and the engine feels snappy. You just can't race it on the highway against cars going above 100kph.
- Gear shifting is smooth. I can't actually tell when it shifted gears without checking the instrument cluster.
- The suspension soaks up bumps efficiently. You can feel there is a bump but it doesn't shake up the cabin.
- It is very confident around corners and grips at the road well.
- The brakes has tons of stopping power.
- The cabin is spacious and really quiet. You can barely hear the engine running, same is true with the noise outside.
- The interior design and instruments/controls are simple but functional. The styling is just right - not too plain but not fancy either. Also, you can operate almost everything inside based on intuition alone. The materials used feels premium.
- Boot space is generous. Even fit two people (me and my brother) sitting side by side, legs extended.
- I am getting 10km/L with an average speed of 40kph, and that's thrifty.
Nitpicks:
- Rear visibility is indeed poor. They should've made a backing camera standard.
- Locking and unlocking means pressing the switch inside your pocket everytime.
- Those who wants to race on highways might find the power underwhelming.
- No AC vent for rear passengers. Have to turn the AC in the center at max for a few minutes for rear passengers to get cool air.
Addons:
- Installed black Bosch Europa horns and I earn respect (or annoyance) from PUVs.
- Installed backing camera (from parakito). Very useful, the image is clear and the auto-dim works well. Must-have.
- Added mudguards (from parakito) and it looks like the CX-5 is meant to have it.
- Added LED scuff plate (from parakito) and it looks like a welcome message everytime you open the doors, especially on dark parking spaces.
Overall, I was satisfied with the experience. Quite sad I have to leave it to my father since I still have my work waiting for me far away.
PS: No pictures since I was enjoying the drive too much that I have no time snapping pictures of it.

*albastru: you can lock/unlock while inside the car by using the driver's lock. Sasabay na yung ibang locks.
While overtaking have you tried flooring it as in sagad hanggang carpet? The fun starts at 4000 rpm kasi ;)

Just keep the toys coming sir parakito. :-)
Sir JohnM - OK na ako pag nasa loob na ng kotse kasi one touch lahat ng lock. Yun lang sanang auto-lock paglabas mo or di kaya touch button sa door handle to lock/unlock as long as nasayo ung key fob. Tamad lang kasi akong dumukot pa to lock/unlock pag nasa labas. Hehehe.

1.3AT Vios ko nga umaabot ng halos redline pag pedal to the metal eh
Sa CX5 MT kasi namin cruise at 6th tapos downshift to 4th or 3rd for quick overtakes. Malakas naman preno nyan :hysterical:
Try sitting in the back. Mas rinig ang tunog don. Sarap nga ng pwesto sa likod eh: baba armrest with drink, legs stretched under front passenger seat, tapos hinahataw ng nagmamaneho. Solb! My dad and mom usually get seasick in the back seat of their compact sedans. Sa CX5 walang reklamo whatsoever.Last edited by JohnM; November 7th, 2013 at 02:57 PM.
