And is it the same thing for the mazda-derived lynx?
its actually a bargain..value for money siya...service is not a problem..maraming casa ang nagseservice ng mazda..ford balintawak, ford quezon avenue, kia commonwealth, wheels, inc, signet balintawak..parts are very abundant in banawe IF you know where to buy..performance wise, imo, very good

    AFAIK that does not exist.

the last familia around was the 1998 1/2 (gen2.5) with the "gull wing" logo instead of the "candle flame."

250k for a 1998 1/2 is kinda cheap. but still not out of the question. mazda's are cheap because of

    1) poor branding (think: Daewoo Nubira or Daewoo Racer)
    2) magastos sa gasolina

but sa (1) unlike the Daewoo's, mazda's are Japan cars, so no scary reliability issues. also parts aren't THAT hard to find, just go to Banawe. i have a 626 (*MUCH* rarer than a familia) but parts are still cheaper than for an accord.

sa tingin ko, purchased as new noong 1999 pero old model..like mine..purchased as new last 1999 pero 1997 model..

i agree with orly, panget pag market ng mazda dati

    Pa-advice naman please:

My uncle is selling me his Mazda Familia na 97mdl AT for a very low price. Almost nothing to fix and newly washed over ang paint.

Is this a good car when it comes to parts availability, durability, ride comfort?
In terms of speed, i'm quite satisfied na coz we usually swap vehicles when he needs my pick-up for loading.

I also don't know much about AT maintenance...please advice po.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas

Owning one is a matter of knowing where to buy parts (it won't be as widely available if compared to a Toyota).

We used to have one and the pros were: performance (good handling and engine power) and space. The most notable problem we had with our was the a/t tranny which gave way at around 40,000km for no apparent reason (overhaul and abot) and after that, the car wasn't in that good a condition anymore (just drove differently na) so we sold it at a low price (another con... resale value).

On a/t maintainance, it's basically changing the ATF when required (usually 40K but we change ours every 20,000km) and using it properly (don't abuse it by shifting from n-d with the engine revving, etc.)...

    Vinj,
Salamat po. I'm really thinking about it because I'm after road comfort talaga. Nakakatakot naman yung experience mo about the tranny. Anyway, I'll test drive it this afternoon to feel the vehicle. Kaso when I think about the fuel consumption considering that I'm using a diesel ride now, mukhang malaking adjustment ang mangyayari if ever.

My pick-up is quite old na rin kasi and I'll have to weigh the condition of the mazda with that of my present ride.

    djerms,

caloyski has a familia a/t. the gas consumption is just something to be desired. for the m/t it is around 7km/L.

so far, the familia doesn't have any major problems. it had a idling hiccup before (it seems that lancers and sentras also have a similar problem) but it magically went away. hehe.

parts isn't really a problem as we have a few suki shops in banawe.

    Mazdamazda,
Really? Sige, I hope that the test drive this afternoon turns out well. As far as I remember (ive driven the car several times na kasi before), there may parang lag ang makina before when I depress the gas pedal.

If it's a good price... go for it. With this you'll have 2nd car (quite practical nowadays)... the pick-up for daily and hakot use para matipid then use the Mazda for trips to the mall, out of town with family, etc...

Big factor here that works to your advantage is that you know the owner and how it was used.

    Vinj,
Yup. Mura lang benta sa akin. Php150.00 lang po. How much po ba ang tune-ups ng kotse? When I get the vehicle, what should I check and have replaced?

    tune-up is around P500.

check for the condition of the fanbelts. then for the suspension components. be on the look out on the condition of the tranny. but otherwise it is a good buy for 150K. the savings that you'll get can be used for the repairs and maintenance of your car.

and after you get your car, kindly drop by www.protegetech.org to have a more detailed info about your car.

    hi djerms,

like what mazdamazda said, i drive a familia a/t. fuel consumption is on the 5 (lowest) to as high as 6.5 km/l..i have compared this already to my uncle's rolla ae101 a/t and sentra gts a/t. imo, my mazda feels faster..regarding the parts, its a matter of knowing where to buy and have your car repaired. i suggest bringing it to kia commonwealth to have everything diagnosed for repairs and stuff. look for francis casim, a good friend of PTP. parts and service manager siya dun. i drive a 97 model purchased new on 99 btw with 57k km on the odometer. . major parts that i have replaced are thermostat and radiator hose. of course the spark plugs, fan belts, air cleaner, oil filter kasama. mga nasira dahil hindi ko sinusunod yung "dont fix what aint broke" theory..countless wheel studs, speedo gauge, door lock mechanism, and a few others. regarding the a/t tranny, i have yet to encounter problems with mine. shift shock is a bit strong pero applying the right amount of gas lessens the shock.

like what i mentioned before in another thread, i had a chance to choose my daily driver..a 95 316i US model or the mazda. i chose the mazda. the bmw is a good car but the mazda won me over. its discreet, sporty, and good value for money. plus, once you get a chance to purchase mazdaspeed parts, you'll get more addicted to your mazda. hehehe sarap ng feeling pag maka discover ng hard to find parts!

    hth.

May slight problem lang po dun sa mazda when i looked at it yesterday. May blinking annoying "hold" light sa panel. Sabi ng uncle ko baka electrical lang. All else is in A1 condition. New engine supports, new paint, new tires, etc. etc.

I'm getting excited na ah....

    Mazda gurus,

Actuallly bago lang akong nagkaroon ng mazda (97 GLi Familia), my wife handed it over to me, it her car actually. Drive and go lang sya kaya medyo napabayaan ng konti. I'm trying to restore it to make it in top shape. I've already made minor repairs, shock replacement, clutch assembly replacement, brake pads and shoes, valve cover gasket, timing belt, pair of stab links. Also, had already couple of tune-ups, brought it to ford balintawak coz they say mas mabuti kung matune-up doon kasi meron daw silang apparatus for retuning a forrd or a mazda better. Also i had all the fluids drained and refilled( brake, gear oil, cooling water and coolant). Aside from the ones I've mentioned, what else are the ones I need to check and replace. Kasi, I went to Rapide and they found out some parts that needed to replace kasi it is showing sign of tear like CV joints, primary and secondary clutch master.

Also, I'm planning to have it body repaired and washed over. What would be the recommended shop and paint...anzhal, PPG, DuPont, sickens, RM Diameont, Nippon?
What color best suits the familia? because right now it is Blue Mica. I saw an Army Green with 16 in ( 50 series) and it looks good.

I already saw the protege tech site,I have already registered, pero still the site for "modifications" is still restricted, since it is still for full pledged members. I want to join the club or what they call the FR. pero diyahe if I have to bring my car in its state now with all the dents and bumps, magmumukha lang gusgusin ang auto ko. Of course pag dadalhi ko doon eh medyo makinis na sya at presentable.

May nakikita rin ako dito sa Forum na mazda goodies, pero I don't know what items are adaptable( with no much alteration) for a 97 Gli.

Mabuhay and more power sa laht ng mazda owners and enthusiasts.
Sana may magreply o Pm sa kin. thanks.

    ylan,

buti ka pa me mazda ka na, kami ala pa... hehehe... member na din ako sa protegetech pero hindi pa gano maka interact kasi ala pang mazda :D anyways, for you to join the group or gain access to the important threads you need to attend 3 consecutive "FR". that is held once a month.. tama po ba sir mazda?

glxi 99 series daw (kasi 98 nov daw ito) - all power, m/t, 58k mileage, 10 cd changer, all stock, white. asking price is 220k, sariwa pa in and out at mukhang ala na ako aayusin talaga
