yup, i agree with the driving style. lalo na sa traffic condition, kung stop and go traffic ka, talo tayo don!

Given our traffic conditions, its really normal to see a car doing 6-7km/L nowadays. Even my diesel pick-up hits 7+km when it gets stuck in the city and i drive it a bit hard between stoplights.
You can try retarding your timing by around 2deg or so then stick to regular unleaded... maybe this could help a bit.
Driving the car in the city with no highway drving can make the car less fuel efficient as the carbon builds up in the engine.

July 11th, 2003 12:03 PM #14happy: tnx dude!....ung filter lang mismo pinalitan ko, 600, banawe.
mbt: good pt. but thing is, weekends ko na lang ginagamit oto ko, light traffic yung 5-6km/li, even highways (e.g. c5, roxas blvd., marcos hway)...but to hear sauman say na as low as 4.9km/li yung 1.6 nya...di naman pala ako nag-iisa!
sequoia: installed it (turbo) too, i dunno about 'economy', but i can attest, gumanda hatak kahit papano.
maybe i'll take happy's word, average na nga siguro yun sa familia, based na rin on your replies.
salamat pipol!

virgin,
mukhang walang problema sa oto ni sauman kasi sa heavy traffic siya dumadaan. since you use the car in light traffic and still get dismal fuel economy, baka problem na sa oto mo iyan.
5 km/L for a 1.6L in heavy traffic is understandable, but 5 km/L in light traffic is a bit extreme...

i assume this is old issue to you dudes, but as for myself...ah love my car, but 6km/li (even less) is just too tough for me.
...i've already done the ff:
- tune-up
- replaced plugs, filters (air, fuel, oil?)
- proper tire pressure (30psi on a 15"x55x195?)
- correct driving habits
- removed excess baggage
...sadly though, improvement hardly significant...is this normal with this car?
i'd appreciate any more suggestions!

July 12th, 2003 08:13 AM #19Change to 195/60-15 tires or even to the tire profile found on the current crop of "big" tired 1600's.
The Mazda's final drive is so low(relatively when compared to other cars) that you can get better fuel economy by using bigger outside diameter tires, while only affecting acceleration slightly.
Going from 196/55-15 to 195/60 will already get you a 3-4% increase inf fuel economy.
The cosmetic's may suck though.

just had my worst gas consumption ever on my accord vti. a little less than 4km/li!!!! siguro mga 3.8km/liter!! thats for this week. Ewan ko bakit bigla ganito, i usually get 5.5-6.5km/li eh!!
oo nga pala, for evaluation nyo, my car is equipped with K&N cone type filter, straight exhaust and free flow muffler. m/t din sya, and has shell helix ultra oil in the engine (halfway to change oil pa lang).Last edited by phillipogi; July 13th, 2003 at 11:20 PM.
Choice I would have made as well.
