Ngayon, help me choose between R and V naman.

1.5L V is the practical choice. High fuel efficiency, less electronic stuff that can be costly to repair.

For a premium Euro-car like experience without the high price tag, 2.0L R is the way to go.

Hatchback is my recommendation. Better rear form, utilitarian when it comes to cargo space.

Is the R a gas guzzler?

Compared to the SkyActiv 1.5L, yes.

Compared to 2.0L and 1.6L engines for 5>yo cars, SkyActiv 2.0L has better FC. At least this is based with my anecdotal experience.

I concur w/ every point. I tested both engine variants...found the 1.5 adequate for my daily needs & more ideal for my kinda ownership which is looooong term.
The pluses of lower purchase cost? A bit more slack on mod funds.[emoji4]
Should you want more power, pull & better throttle response, a lot of Mown3rs are silently rejoicing over OVT. Their custom tunes & throttle maps aren't only safe, invisible & reversible, they really kick arse.
Sedan or Hatch???? Your thoughts on this pic....

The 2.0 is no guzzler at all. Here's the highway FC of a bud's

Avg 5.6/100km...that's 17.85kpl there on a BM3 w/ more than 100k kms on the clock! The 2.0 Skyactiv provides awesome power-weight ratio on the 3!

    Those are pretty impressive numbers!

I read somewhere that the M3's FC gets even better after the 1000km mark. 8km/Li is already quite good for me. Beyond that would be even better.

How's your bud's M3 maintenance so far? Any parts replacement done?

I have the R hatchback. Current FC is 8km/Li, 13kph ave speed, odometer 800km. Daily drive 60km along the horrendous traffic at Commonwealth ave QC and C5.

That's not bad at all, ,our BR-V also records 8kmpl. If the 1.5 promises better consumption, I might consider it over the features of the R.

The two of you really provide the best information out there. Lucky to have you here. All points will be taken.

Im just into the pleasing interior of the R, the climate display, the heads up display, the cruise control(though it wont be useful in EDSA). But, if it proves to be too costly to maintain, then V really looks like the way to go.

First six months I was too conscious about fuel consumption. But our Mazda 3 is so fun to drive. During weekend, forget about fc and just enjoy driving. We knew for a fact that the skyactiv engine is fuel efficient. Now go and drive it like a maniac from time-to-time. Turn on the sport mode.... hit manual mode and flick those paddles. Zoom zoom....

Haha. This further cements your name as the RedlineJunkie. [emoji23]

I will try to go crazy from time to time, barring the traffic of course.

I have a 2.0 Speed with all the aero dragging bits [emoji23]. So far so good after being broken in, mixed City-Highway reading (least based on the trip computer) is around 9.3km/L now at 3,000+kms after 3 months.

While pure computation highway(+ provincial roads) reading under partially spirited driving is at 16.5km/L.

But yeah, agree that it has too many electronic bits. I just wanted the sunroof 🤪

You can run Android Auto (check my pic I posted in the Mazda 3 2014 thread), but you would need a hack for this.

For the leather seats, I had mine done in Seatmate. They would already have a pattern similar to the 2.0, but ofcourse since these are leatherette, these would be hotter compared the original ones.

AIO Tweaks will give you Android Auto & more, sir.
Pleather kid-proofs your fabric seats but will trap heat more. Leather gives you breathability, comfort, long term durability, classy premium look & that distinct cowhide aroma. Faux will never be genuine's equal.[emoji4]
All that said, this hobo could only afford faux.[emoji17]

For the tweaks, will it not void the warranty? And also, are the headunits for V and R, different? Based on experience kasi, the entry variant for Honda Brv is different to that of the higher end.
