Guys, to those who have the skyactiv D cx5. What battery did you replace your with? Pwede na ba amaron pro 3sm? If not the same capacity as the stock hindi gagana I-stop? Kung yun lang ang con I'll gladly replace mine with a battery that won't activate the istop. Still figuring out how to disable it permanently.

Flip the hood switch, sir. iStop won't activate if it the hood sensor doesn't sense it being latched.
The pics show the switch where the harness ends.

I believe it does as it shares the same engine with Mazda 6.

Thanks sir. But how about the alarm? It won't activate if it detects the hood is open?

No alarm nor light for the hood switch. It's specifically there for iStop. None iStop variants have no such part.[emoji4]

So its basically wanting the convenience of prolonging the battery and starter at the expense of losing the alarm. Bummer. Whoever thought of I-stop on being default should be shot by a firing squad hehe. BTW, the alarm's function is just sound right? If a thief was able to break in and no alarm sounds, he still wouldn't be able to start the car without the keyfob?

Not sure if we even have impact sensors anymore. The alarm will sound if any of the doors are opened and the system is locked. And yes the car cannot be started if the key is not inside the cabin.

Alarm? All current Mazdas are equipped w/ an immobilizer system. No key fob, no start. Sound alarms won't deter daring window breaking anymore anyway.
The non-iStop variants have no hood latch switch. It's there to deactivate iStop when car is in service....when bonnet is up. It's only 1 of many ways to deactivate iStop. The system has many sensors & triggers.

    From Mazda on iStop activation:

"There’s a lot of smarts behind i-stop and it’s all there in your owner’s manual but here’s a few things to keep in mind.
I-stop needs a base amount of charge to function, so it becomes operational after the engines warmed up. I-stop is ready when its indicator light eliminates green in the dash.
The other thing to remember is that i-stop only works when you’ve applied the brake and you’re holding it down.
The steering wheel needs to be reasonably straight if you turn the wheel significantly when pulling up i-stop won’t cut the engine out.
Also, if you got the air conditioning on maximum settings i-stop won’t work. It also won’t work if you’re on an incline, if you’re in reverse, if the doors are open or if the driver’s seat belt is unfastened.
If you decide at any stage that you want to override the i-stop system, you just simply press the button on the right-hand side of the dash and the engine operates as per normal."

The hood switch flipping simply lets the system stop reading other triggers. Current Mazda owners are kinda fortunate there's still a physical iStop switch there. Other makes & future Mazdas won't. Let's be reminded that the system was created for the environment, not for convenience nor economy....

But yes, you're right. I agree....whoever designed the system to activate by default everytime the car is cranked on should be shot....[emoji13]

Simpler solution would be to set aircon temperature to lowest setting ... i-Stop won't activate anymore ...

Engine stop systems are made so vehicle companies can pass government regulations in some countries / regions ... and to have bragging rights about being fuel efficient ... Some countries give incentives, others require that the average fuel economy of all vehicles of a brand meet a certain standard, etc, etc ...

The problem with the skyactiv diesel is it uses the starter to restart the engine when I-stop shuts it down. Unlike the gas models. So the starter really takes a beating. Especially on my route, the are a lot of stop and go. Sometimes I forget to turn it off. Only to be surprised that the engine already shuts itself off

I just tried it today, I set the temperature at 18 which is the lowest set point.

I'm not used without seeing the ember light of i-Stop.

I don't know if it's a good idea to set it at a very low temperature. I suspect the compressor won't disengage as it has to reach the temperature and it will be impossible to reach it.

I was searching for my post and apparently I posted in the other CX5 thread haha

I don't have the CTEK battery conditioner, I know I won't be able to do that, too lazy and forgetful

But I'm planning to buy the CTEK Battery Sense to check for battery life. Is this a reliable gadget? Or is the ordinary battery checker (checks the voltage - don't know what you call it) good enough?

It took me a while, or a long time, to verify this. Just now, I experimented by opening the hood while i-Stop is ready to activate. Suddenly, i-Stop is "not ready".

Next time, if ever I'll be inclined to do it, I'll check the wiring connections and remove it.
