Casa checked my Mazda CX5 2018 ( Dec’17 acquired) and they said the fuel pump has some issue resulting to the engine will just shut off when you start.

Is it normal to have this early failure of fuel pump? Mileage at less than 40K. I would like to get your opinion if you had experienced it.

Never had this issue with my previous Toyota Innova and Honda CRV.

    Quoted me a big numbers.

Mazda USA has a recall on failing fuel pumps. Check with other casa if a recall has been issued in PH too.

Thanks for sharing. I searched and found out that Mazda Ph also issued a recall last year Oct 2020.

Will check with the service center.

Mazda service advisor tolds us that the fuel pump failure on my 2018 CX5 unit is not part of the recall they have last Oct 2020 although the unit was manufactured on the affected year of 2017 to 2019.

Fuel pump failing at 36K kilometers is unheard of to me. Their telling me its outside of 3 yrs warranty and may fail anytime. Knowing they have a known issue of fuel pump, they should have investigated further.

On the same unit, the power side mirror keeps on having issue and they are doing temporary fix, until its out of warranty. I have actually shell out to pay for a new one to replace the defective side mirror mid of this year.

Mazda ownership to me is not a good experience at all.

Honda also issued recalls with the fuel pump a year ago also. Two of my friends with Honda Civic 10th gen (2015) had to bring their cars for fuel pump replacement. This issue with the fuel pump is not uncommon with these recent recalls.

As for the motorized folding sidemirror, it's not uncommon also for issues to happen with any brands. My Mazda3 2017 comes with the motorized folding sidemirror. No issue so far fortunately, but I heard some owners had issues at some point. I would prefer to have it replaced with the conventional one if in case it becomes defective.

I've maintained various car brands like Honda, Toyota, Ford and Mazda. By far Ford is the worst when it comes to quality and durability, a headache when it comes to maintenance and repair.

My dad and I are still maintaining these decade old cars, never had a problem with fuel pumps.

But no car brand is perfect. Every car brand we've own had its own unique problems. The Honda Accord 2003 and Ford Fiesta 2013 models are good examples based on my experience.

The Accord's oxygen sensor just keep on failing every after replacement with OEMs. We got a recent quote from a nearby Honda dealer, it will cost us ₱16T for another replacement. No recall on this defective part unfortunately.

The Fiesta's ABS module failure is pretty common judging from various owner complaints at a local Fiesta FB group. Casa quotation for a replacement is around ₱70T. Our Fiesta is just less than 55T km at the odometer but already had a lot of issues compared to our 14yo 1st Mazda3 which is clocking at 125T km. Again, there's no recall from Ford despite the popularity of ABS module errors posted by owners at the FB group.

At the least, Mazda issued a recall with the probability of fuel pump failure. The recall is probably related also with Honda's fuel pump recall that affected most of their car models (Civic, BRV, CRV).

Mazda casa pricing for a fuel pump is 35K, 2-3 weeks leadtime. Im sourcing outside to compare.

    Any recommended shop?

Hopefully with the recent further recall in the US, they will look at the exposure in Asia particularly Phils.

the fuel pump issue was also seen in other brands.
is it possible, the same fuel pump manufacturer was supplying these fuel pumps to several car makers, and thus the problem was plaguing several brands at the same time?

i am assuming that the fuel pumps of the older gens were not these same fuel pumps, so they (the older gens) were not affected.

The fuel pump recall also affected other brands. Nasapawan lang siguro ng exploding airbag issue.

At least walang recall for valve springs

Or an evaporator giving up at 4years / 18k kilometers

Power side mirrors are a liability to me. Some insurance policies treat it as a consumable and don't cover it. There are shops that offer repair mechanisms.

Learned my lesson on power side mirror. First complaint and they tried to repair, 2nd complaint and should have insisted to replace since its within warranty.

    most strange.
i had this belief, that casas do not repair; they replace,
    especially when still under warranty.

It's Denso brand, there's a certain production batch that's causing these recalls from various car brands.

It looks like this fuel pump recall is a common thing nowadays. Even Toyota is recalling select production model batches.

Advice To Mazda CX-5 Owners About To Deal With the Fuel Pump Recall | Torque News

    From article:

This week, Mazda owners learned that the vehicle they own may be subject to a fuel pump-related recall. This recall is similar in many ways to one that Toyota owners have been undergoing. Consumer Reports has reported, “(The) problem is due to a batch of over 2 million faulty low-pressure fuel pumps manufactured by Denso, an automotive supplier, which were installed on vehicles made by Acura, Ford, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Toyota.” The Toyota recall reporting at this site has generated over 7 pages of comments from owners who experienced the recall. We have noticed some important trends among the owners based on this feedback.

How much is it? I'm starting to look for EFB options for my Territory, I have a feeling that stock batteries won't last for 2 years.

    6.2K.

Technician did a simple hack to avoid I-Stop re-programming, he keep the engine running when he replaced the battery, told us he is doing it for all Mazda with I-Stop.

That's not a smart move ... very risky for your electronics ...
