I think this has been clearly explained on the article and I purposely put a question mark at the end of the title coz thats how the article was titled. Nobody knows for sure except the company...

engine: 2.0L I4 170 hp, 136 lb-ft torque
new ar adds 2.6 in, 0.6 in, 3 in to the wheelbase, length and width

Saying Mazda has something to fear from the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky is like saying that Honda's Accord could be usurped by the Chevy Lumina or Hyundai Sonata... they're just in completely different classes, cachet-wise, and market-share-wise.
